Kim Campbell Must Be Smiling!

Whatever happens over the next few weeks, I have to believe that Canadians, when given the chance to vote, will show Stephane Dion and the Liberals precisely what they think of throwing away 141 years of democratic history. Ms. Campbell's infamous moniker of "the most unsuccessful Prime Minister in history" will soon become Dion's crown ... and likely stay there for eternity.

"141 years of democratic history"

Hardly. Canada was founded on the ethos of resisting the democracy or "mob rule" as it was viewed, south of the 49th, while maintaining just enough of a facade of democracy, "British style".
That the funhouse mirrors have shattered and taken many people's illusions about "democracy in Canada" with them is a good thing. Time they grew up and faced reality.

"The Loyalists' basic distrust of republicanism and "mob rule" influenced Canada's gradual
"paper-strewn" path to nationhood, in contrast to the abrupt and violent upheavals in other
countries." "

That's one way of putting it.
