Double Standards for Racism in Canada

This afternoon Roy Green interviewed the allegedly "racist" mother of an 8 year-old girl in Winnipeg. You can listen to it here at 34:00.

Here's the letter I sent to him afterwards:

Roy,

Great interview! It was very honest radio and I appreciate that. While that woman & I would probably never be close friends, I do believe she has a valid point regarding political correctness and double-standards aplenty.

Let me share a quick story with you: Three and a half years ago I founded a non-profit organization in Vancouver that refurbishes used computers and gives them for free to less fortunate families throughout British Columbia. In our first year of existence we had a young man join our team of volunteers. He was a high-school student. He and his family had moved to Canada from China about 10 years prior.

This young fellow was one of our techs, responsible for doing the actual refurbishing. Since he didn't drive, I had all sorts of other volunteers dropping off to his home computers needing work and picking up refurbished machines.

One day he called me up and had a very serious tone. I asked him what the matter was. He hesitated and then said, "I need for you to stop sending [a certain volunteer] over to my home any more. My parents insist upon it." The fellow he was referring to happened to be a dark-skinned man from Sri Lanka. I thought about it for a second and responded, "Is it just this particular fellow or all darker skinned people?" He quietly said, "All of them."

Roy, tell me honestly, do you think that any Child Service Agency in this country would ever dare to take away such a child from his Asian parents?

The Latest Canard from Obama Inc.

When the Obama War Room realized how the campaign had changed because of the Palin Effect, they strategized how to combat it. One tact was to get their endless supporters in the MSM to denigrate Sarah Palin with phony story after phony story in newspapers and TV.

That's bad enough, but now the most disgusting tactic of all is being used. Members of the media and more formal supporters are playing the race card:

I've seen all of this before. It was an extremely successful tactic used by the Liberal Party of Canada for years to paint their opponents, the Conservatives, as anti-immigrant. But in 2006 finally enough Canadians ignored the propaganda and elected the Conservatives. Lo and behold, it was suddenly discovered that all such racist tarring done by the Liberals was a complete lie.

Sadly, fanatical Democrats are seeking to start a race war in America . . . if it'll help them win victory on Nov. 4th. Dennis Prager has some insightful comments about this here & here, and explains that if Obama loses then the only ones who could possibly be racist are Democrats, since Republicans would never vote for an extreme liberal like Obama regardless of his race or sex.

Here's a telling editorial from a Republican named John Doggett. Oh, by the way, he happens to be black.

The Audacity of Disagreeing with Another

Recently I was engaged in an interesting online political discussion. Here's the gist of what I said:

The fear of being political incorrect too often seeps into people's comments these days. I fully understand why, though am saddened anytime anyone feels the need to first preface any comments they think might be controversial. I did it myself constantly in my 20's and even now need to check myself anytime I start walking down that path again.

This reminded of Godwin's Law, something I first learned of from a female friend of mine from Philadelphia. Her take on it is that anytime someone calls another person a "Nazi" in a heated Internet discussion that the person using the phrase automatically and immediately loses the argument.

I think this "law" needs to be expanded for anyone who labels another as a "Racist" or "Sexist". For if one can't disagree or even detest someone who happens to be of another race or sex then we are truly at a sad state in our collective history.

P.S. I'm doubly amused when some people have called me a racist sexist white male simply because I disagree with them on a political issue. To each of these folks I always ask the same simple question: "If Condoleezza Rice were running in this election as the Republican Presidential Candidate, would you vote for her?" Their response is always the same: Absolute silence at first and then a long, twisted diatribe about why that's "different". It often ends in them calling her a Nazi. :-(

Though I don't like his frequent use of the F & N words, Chris Rock has some interesting things to say on this subject. Why do I doubt that anyone would ever call him a racist or a sexist?

CUPW: Yet another anti-semetic Canadian union

It has long baffled me why being part of a Canadian union has anything to do with the State of Israel on the other side of the planet. Yet time after time I see strange stories about such unions vehemently against Israel and in support of the Palestinians.

While such support is couched with phrases like "helping oppressed people" and "standing up for human rights", I've long suspected that what's really at work behind the scenes is a deep-seated hatred toward Jews amongst some agitators in the union.

The fact is that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a very complex one. Anyone who takes the position that "one side is completely wrong and the other side is angelic" is a fool of the highest calibre. Speaking of fools . . .

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers "has no plans to block mail to and from Israel as of yet." I'd imagine that 99% of such mail would be either to or from a Jewish person. Just imagine what would occur if this union were to announce that they may start blocking mail to/from China. If I were a Chinese-Canadian person, I'd be outraged ... and rightly so.

One has to wonder if a requirement to join CUPW is to indicate some sort of anti-Jewish bias? Perhaps if you do then your monthly union payments get reduced. Or maybe you get discounts on such books as:

  • Intolerance: What all the Kool Posties are doing these days!
  • How to destroy mail without getting caught - a hacker's guide
  • Nazi Calligraphy, the art of drawing the perfect swastika
Do you think CUPW has a special salute?!

Clinton & Obama Making Peace

Here's an interesting video focusing on what's currently happening on the Democrat side of the American presidential campaign:

It features conservative pundit, Michelle Malkin, who I absolutely adore on so many levels!

The YVR Protest: An Absolute Disgrace!

Something absolutely insane happened at YVR yesterday. Even worse, though expected, the perpetrators are now labeling as racist anyone who publicly criticizes them. I've just sent the following letter to the Vancouver Sun:

The recent thug-like theatrics at YVR by Harsha Walia and her cohorts is a disgrace of the highest order. While the participants undoubtedly think an injustice is being done to them, I wonder if their little de facto gang stopped for a moment to consider what two points they made with crystal clarity:

  1. They have absolutely no respect for the law, let alone order.
  2. Playing the politically correct race card is as transparent as the hollow arguments they've been making.
With Svend Robinson now in Europe, perhaps Walia thought that a vacancy needed to be filled. Whatever the case, such actions are far, far beneath any Canadian, no matter what colour of skin they have or where they were originally born. I anxiously await the saner words of our Attorney General, Wally Oppal, to remind us all of what constitutes proper behaviour in this country that we all call home.

A half German-Canadian who would be saying EXACTLY the same thing if the gentleman in question were from my father's homeland.

CBC's The Current: A Racist Hiring Policy?

Take a look at this set of faces. They work for "The Current", CBC Radio 1's morning primetime show. With a few minor exceptions, all of the staff are white, white, white.

Yet this show has a constant parade of segments featuring "ethnic" people who are constantly facing some sort of racism. Today there was a piece on mixed races. The general implication was that if you dare ask a person what ethnic makeup they are, then you are automatically a racist. What a crock!

I have two traits that make me guilty:

  1. I'm a curious person. Always have been. It's one of the reasons I became an engineer.
  2. I happen to be especially attracted to women of mixed races. I don't know precisely why but I so often find their looks to be very enchanting.
So in the same way that I'm curious to learn about where people have traveled to and what types of cuisine they like, I'm also curious to learn about their ethnic heritage. Wow, what a horrible person I am for doing so!!

I wrote The Current and [more gently] shared my thoughts with them. I also challenged them to do a future show that asked more pressing questions, walking outside the politically correct boundaries that the CBC has imposed on itself. Here's an example: A CBC radio reporter should interview a group of Chinese-Canadian teenagers in a mall and ask them the following: "Some might call you to be racist because you've not let into your social group anyone outside your own racial group. Do you agree? If not, why have you made no effort to diversify your social circle?"

Do you think they'll ever ask such a question?!

White Trash - Alive & Well in Greater Vancouver

This story is a vivid reminder that intolerance is alive & well in Vancouver. How dare these young punks swear and throw stones at a perfectly innocent elderly couple that were just going on their daily walk and minding their own business.

Sadly, I see this sort of racial intolerance much too frequently - from young punks of all races and both sexes. With little to no repercussions from the Canadian Lack of Justice system, it's little surprise that it continues.

Taxi Racism: Alive & Well in Vancouver

An interesting little event just occurred. A young man, originally from Somalia, just came by to pick up his computer. He's in Grade 12 in a Burnaby high school, getting great marks, and looking forward to a Computer Science education at university.

But when I called Yellow Cab to drive him back home with his new computer, the taxi driver did a double-take when he saw who was getting in his car. The driver asked me, "Is he a good guy?" You & I both know what that's code for.

Ironically, the driver's skin colour was only a few shades lighter than the student's.

I've never driven a cab in this city so I don't know what the drivers face but I would have hoped that such events no longer occurred in 2007. This was a vivid wake-up call for me about things I never have to worry about.
