The Federal Liberals & NDP vs. Common Sense

I've long felt that most Canadians support immigration. I certainly do. But there's an implicit quid pro quo connected to this support. Simply put, Canadians fully expect immigrants to work hard, build a future for themselves, respect Canadian values, and obey the law.

When people come to Canada and claim refugee status, there's an established process they go through to determine if their refugee claim is legitimate. If it is not then they are asked to go home and apply to get into Canada through the normal process. Is that too much to ask? All of the federal NDP MPs and all but one of the federal Liberal MPs think so. They're supporting a private member's bill that will introduce another appeal process into the mix, making it even more difficult to remove from the country those claimants that are deemed to be illegitimate.

If you disagree with this bill then please share your thoughts with Canada's Immigration Minister, Jason Kenney.

Ruby, You've Got Some 'Splainin To Do

Some damning documents have been published by the Toronto Star concerning MP Ruby Dhalla's alleged payments to two Filipino nannies.

Based on the receipts containd therein, let do some math:

$250.00 - Payment per week

$6.25 - Hourly rate if the nanny worked 40 hrs/wk
$4.17 - Hourly rate if the nanny worked 60 hrs/wk
$3.13 - Hourly rate if the nanny worked 80 hrs/wk

Priceless - The spin that Ruby Dhalla and the Liberal Party of Canada will attempt trying to explain this!

Incidentally, this puff piece resonates quite differently now, doesn't it?!

Entitlement Mentality from the Start

I'm a big believer in immigration. It is an important thing and in the case of Canada, it is absolutely necessary because of our low birthrates.

I belong to an Immigration forum because of the computer charity I created. A woman started a forum thread entitled "Three-month waiting period for healthcare". Here are some of the entries:

When I arrived in Canada, I didn't realize there would be a three-month waiting period before I could be covered under the public health care system. [A friend even joked that I wasn't 'eligible' to fall sick for those many months!!!] Does anyone have any expeierences where you needed medical care in those first three months and weren't covered? Do many newcomers actually get private health insurance?

I came to Canada with 7 months pregnancy and me and my husband had to pay for all the costs of the delivery, including doctors and hospital. Anyway, it was very clear on the information provided by the Government of Canada that we would have the three month waiting period. If it's fair or not, its another discussion. But we have to agree that at least for the skilled workers immigrants it is clear that we have to pay for all the costs related to health care in the first three months after arrival.

Some one told me that you can get your money back after when you are covered. However I am not sure if this is correct. I think the time for the medical cover takes 4 months. First month you have to wait for your bank statement to come thru post which takes 1 month and then 3 months for medical. May be you can show some other document perhaps such as accommodation but I am not sure. Waiting for my bank statement to come really then I will initiate my medical process. In fact I have my phone bill arrived thru posts but the medical centre did not accept this as a valid proof of residence.

Is it just me, or have these people already forgotten about what the word "privilege" means and instead converted them to "rights"? Whatever happened to newcomers wanting to come to Canada to work hard and make a contribution? Now it seems some of these folks already have the entitlement mentality from the get go. This is beyond sad.

A Contrast of Values

Two seemingly unrelated events occurred today that I just have to share. My mom & I took the bus out to Ladner to visit her older brother who recently moved into an assisted living facility. When we got to the Ladner Bus Exchange, a man came to the front door and said to the driver, "Hey man, I don't have any change, can I get a ride to the KFC?" Rather than point out to him that there was a McDonald's half a block away to get some change, instead the driver let him on, though warning him that there was a $75 fine if he got caught. Mr. Freeloader hopped on, saying that he would risk it. He then added that after lunch he was going to pick up his "EI" (Employment Insurance) cheque.

A woman, who clearly didn't know this guy, insisted that she would pay for him. There were no protestations of pride or self-respect on his part. What did come out of his mouth next was this, "I'm a child of God and this is a blessing. It's a sin to turn down a blessing, isn't it?!" I almost threw up.

The bus got rolling and Mr. EI-KFC got off about 6 blocks later. Oh, you may be interested to know that he about 25 years old and white.

Fast forward a few hours. At lunch, we were served by an Indian woman in her late 30's. We learned that though she was not born here, her 5 children were. In addition to this job waiting and cleaning tables, she also works part-time at the Post Office. Her husband builds townhouses in Burnaby and also runs a blueberry farm that they just bought in Ladner.

When people say that we should stop all immigration to Canada I just laugh and think, "Stop new immigrants from coming here?!? The vast majority of them are the ones setting the examples for the rest of us!!!"

The YVR Protest: An Absolute Disgrace!

Something absolutely insane happened at YVR yesterday. Even worse, though expected, the perpetrators are now labeling as racist anyone who publicly criticizes them. I've just sent the following letter to the Vancouver Sun:

The recent thug-like theatrics at YVR by Harsha Walia and her cohorts is a disgrace of the highest order. While the participants undoubtedly think an injustice is being done to them, I wonder if their little de facto gang stopped for a moment to consider what two points they made with crystal clarity:

  1. They have absolutely no respect for the law, let alone order.
  2. Playing the politically correct race card is as transparent as the hollow arguments they've been making.
With Svend Robinson now in Europe, perhaps Walia thought that a vacancy needed to be filled. Whatever the case, such actions are far, far beneath any Canadian, no matter what colour of skin they have or where they were originally born. I anxiously await the saner words of our Attorney General, Wally Oppal, to remind us all of what constitutes proper behaviour in this country that we all call home.

A half German-Canadian who would be saying EXACTLY the same thing if the gentleman in question were from my father's homeland.

Useful Idiots

A hate-full [sic] Muslim imam, Said Jaziri, was just deported from Canada back to his homeland of Tunisia. This vile fellow represents the very worst kind of immigrant. He preached about hate toward homosexuals and other infidels, as well as insisting that Sharia Law be adopted in Canada.

In his last bit of time in Canuckistan it was interesting, though not surprising, to see this aggressor suddenly use every trick in the Victim Playbook. I've long noticed that victims/aggressors are connected images of the same personality type.

But what's most hilarious/pathetic is how so-called "human rights groups", often populated with white liberal Canadians defended this piece of trash to the hilt. Brutal Russian leader, Joseph Stalin had an appropriate term for them: "Useful Idiots".

Is Canada Headed Over a Steep Cliff?

It was reported today that the Northern B.C. town of Kitimat lost about 12% of its population last year. One has to wonder if the dramatic population decrease in Kitimat is a preview of what's to come in most small communities across Canada. Canada's birth rate is extremely low and our population numbers are artificially (and only currently) being held up by immigration.

But it was also reported that 90% of new immigrants are moving to Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver. And why shouldn't they? If you were the parent of a new family to Canada, would you take them to a dying town with minimal employment prospects or a thriving metropolis with countless opportunities?

Incidentally, one important fact that is not being accurately reported is that our immigration is not going to solve our birthrate problem. For the average age of these new immigrants is not the age of new babies. So 20+ years from now, when we're going to need new taxpayers coming into the workforce to support our social programs, instead we'll have middle-aged former new immigrants that are nearing retirement themselves.

I've just started reading Mark Steyn's excellent book "America Alone" and it's pretty darn scary what's facing us in just a few decades. Like him, I support immigration wholeheartedly but to think that it's the answer to our pending problems is pure fiction.
