Canada: A nation of endless victims :-(
Mark Steyn shares the latest on the "human rights" racket in Canada. It's beyond tragic that these quasi-judicial kangaroo courts are allowed to exist.

I don't know about you but this deeply troubles me. Yet further evidence of the Left inventing facts & rewriting history to better suit their own narrative.

Here's an interesting article from NYC about the cost of owning a car.
Here's the comment I left:
I live in Vancouver, BC and haven't owned a car - by choice - for nearly 7 years. But my situation is quite extra-ordinary. I work for myself at my home office and so my commute is about 15 seconds. Pretty good transit is just a few blocks away. I don't have a family and am not dating at the moment.
If ANY of those factors were to change then my need for a car would as well. Immediately!
That's why I commend the author for taking the time to bring a little common sense to the Age of Lack of Intellect.
Here on Canada's Left Coast (in more ways than one) we have some of the most arrogant (& vacuous) Kumbaya Latte Drinking Limousine Liberal environmentalists anywhere in the world. They have tried to stop the building of bridges & improvement of roads and have encouraged dramatic tax increases to gasoline to prevent working class people from driving. In a nutshell they are open to virtually anything that will force people to adhere to their world view ... without a microsecond of thought to the consequences.
I have some good friends who live in a suburb called Langley, that's about an hour's drive southeast of Vancouver. They have a daughter who's very busy in many activities. Both parents work, in different directions, one half an hour away from home and the other an hour or more away.
When the Kumbaya crowd started suggesting that people like them should get rid of their cars and start taking transit (which would mean upwards of 2 - 3 hours each way) I definitively knew I was fighting the good fight against them!
Heads up: Our Far Left City Council, in their infinite [lack of] wisdom, has decided to waste $1 Million on this experiment.
In late June, go to YouTube and search for these words: Burrard Bridge bicycle. There you will find a time-lapse video shot by yours truly which will accurately show 3 packed lanes of traffic going one way, two fairly full lanes of traffic coming the other way, and one almost empty line of bicycles. Tied in with this video will be a "special" message for all potential Olympic visitors next February!

If every village has an idiot then NOW Magazine's in-house version surely must be Susan G. Cole. In this despicable attack against Ezra Levant and against free speech in Canada, she truly embarrasses herself.
After attacking Rex Murphy, Rick Mercer, Anna Maria Tremonti, and Mark Steyn, she then goes on to say this:
Levant spouts all the near-religious-in-tone rhetoric about how freedom of speech is his inalienable right. Ridiculous. Freedom of speech as an absolute is an American fantasy.
Make absolutely no mistake, it is the apathy of most Canadians that have let the Susan Cole's of our country badly damage it and direct it towards an Orwellian nightmare where Thought Police, controlled by the likes of her decide what is permissible and what is not. We're nowhere near there yet but that is precisely the kind of place where we're devolving into unless enough Canadians wake up and say, "NO MORE!"
I am heartened to see that many people are taking the time to talk back to her, with intelligent, cogent arguments.
Incidentally, the photoshopped image you see of Ezra Levant is the one on the NOW magazine site. Their right to free speech lets them publish such an image but one can not help from comparing it with these.

I heard a young fellow call up to CKNW this morning, blathering about something that had me both laughing and shaking my head. He was deeply saddened that STV was summarily rejected by the voters of BC yesterday and had convinced himself that it was all the media's fault for not better publicizing it.
Here's the comedy part of his diatribe (paraphrasing) : "I think the CBC did a pretty good job at explaining STV though. But then CBC listeners are generally already highly informed."
Really? REALLY?? R-E-A-L-L-Y?!?
I am confident that if I were given the opportunity to interview typical CBC listeners, I could ask them just a few questions about current news events for which they would have answers. But I submit that at least 90% of these answers would be:

This story caught my attention. Here's the comment I left, which I believe is worth repeating here:
In recent years I've noticed a strange marriage of convenience between the Radical elements of the Left and Muslims. On paper they might seem to be diametrically opposed, but in practice they have one very significant thing in common:
Neither believe in Free Speech whatsoever for those they disagree with.
To pretend otherwise is delusional to the extreme. Don't believe me? The examples are endless. Here are some that barely scratch the surface:

George Will has written a stunning article, showing precisely what has gone wrong with California's economy. Headed by a RINO governor and ultra-leftist congress, the state is a perfect example of where Barack Obama & Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid will be taking the entire United States. Simply put, the private sector can not afford to support a public sector that grows too large. Here's a telling snippet from Will's article:
The state's crisis has been caused by "moderation," understood as splitting the difference between extreme liberalism and hyperliberalism, a "reasonableness" that merely moderates the speed at which the ever-expanding public sector suffocates the private sector. California has become liberalism's laboratory, in which the case for fiscal conservatism is being confirmed. The state is a slow learner and hence will remain a drag on the nation's economy.

A very disturbing trend of intolerance is sweeping across America at an alarming rate. And the source is not where many might expect it. What is clear is that when the Left takes over something, diversity of opinion is not tolerated.
Dennis Prager dissects the latest example: the shunning, mocking, & ridiculing of a woman simply because she politely and compassionately disagrees with the concept of gay marriage.

I strongly encourage you to visit this discussion thread on SDA. Scroll down a bit (or search) and find the entries by a Radical Leftist who goes by the moniker of 'philboy'. You'll then get a quick education on what it is like to try to debate folks of his ilk these days. Might remind you of Susan Roesgen! Shown below is the comment I left.

Fellow Travelers [Cliff May]
My column this week looks at the curious and unholy alliances being forged between the Left and militant Islamists. I took pains to point out there are people and institutions on the Left who would never condone terrorism or apologize for radical Islam. Even so, I received a flurry of hate-mail from people who took offense and called me names— though not one of them disputed a fact or seriously debated a conclusion. (Of course, probably unhelpful was the headline one newspaper put on my column: “Liberals Hate America.” You think the editor who wrote that was trying to be subversive? Or is stupidity the more likely explanation?)
In today’s Wall Street Journal, David Horowitz has an op-ed on the various campus groups that routinely attempt to shut down free speech, cheer when they hear the word “communist,” and openly align with Islamists. Among those groups
the International Socialist Organization, whose goal is the establishment of a "dictatorship of the proletariat" in the United States; Iranians for Peace and Justice, supporters of Hezbollah and Hamas; and Campus Progress, the unofficial college arm of the Democratic Party.
One of the local members of Campus Progress had written a column in the campus newspaper attacking me in advance of my talk, and defending Sami Al-Arian as a victim of political persecution. The conservative students who invited me to the University of Texas told me that organizations such as the Muslim Students Association routinely join with College Democrats in protests against the state of Israel.
There have to be grownups in the Democrat Party who are uncomfortable about all this. More of them have the courage to say so. Memo to DNC Chairman Tim Kaine: Shouldn’t you get the ball rolling?

British Columbians now have proof positive that there is a God: Jinny Sims, the thug who used to head the BC Teacher's Federation and counseled teachers to break the law, was soundly defeated in a recent NDP nomination bid.

Dennis Prager has an interesting expression: "First tell the truth, then share your opinion."
I firmly believe that failure to adhere to this simple premise is the root cause of many of our problems today.
Case in point: This morning I listened for awhile to the CBC's Sunday Edition radio program, featuring Obama's Canadian shill, Michael Enright. A greater embarrassment to the once proud profession of journalism there has never been. He interviewed at length a professor from the University of Syracuse. This fellow had some interesting things to say but so much of it could have been pulled from the chorus sheets of the Radical Left Daily Kos hatesite.
Among other things, he stated that the average American's real income is much less than it was 30 years ago. Is that true? I don't intuitively believe it. But the CBC, being the CBC, there was no alternate viewpoint to challenge anything this fellow said.
So if you're a regular CBC listener/viewer and rarely/never partake in any alternative viewpoints then much of the foundation of your worldview is built upon very skewed opinions, not truth. In times past the betrayal of truth with opinion was called "effective propaganda". It often precluded the occurrence of very bad things.
