I've been listening to Dennis Miller's radio show since Day 1, but today was the first time I called in. I got to talk with both the host and Mark Steyn - what a thrill!

CBC Consistently Replacing Truth with Opinion

Dennis Prager has an interesting expression: "First tell the truth, then share your opinion."

I firmly believe that failure to adhere to this simple premise is the root cause of many of our problems today.

Case in point: This morning I listened for awhile to the CBC's Sunday Edition radio program, featuring Obama's Canadian shill, Michael Enright. A greater embarrassment to the once proud profession of journalism there has never been. He interviewed at length a professor from the University of Syracuse. This fellow had some interesting things to say but so much of it could have been pulled from the chorus sheets of the Radical Left Daily Kos hatesite.

Among other things, he stated that the average American's real income is much less than it was 30 years ago. Is that true? I don't intuitively believe it. But the CBC, being the CBC, there was no alternate viewpoint to challenge anything this fellow said.

So if you're a regular CBC listener/viewer and rarely/never partake in any alternative viewpoints then much of the foundation of your worldview is built upon very skewed opinions, not truth. In times past the betrayal of truth with opinion was called "effective propaganda". It often precluded the occurrence of very bad things.

Anya Marina on BBC London

Big George [Webley] had San Diego singer, Anya Marina, on his show again tonight (2 - 3am London time). Like many celebs, she's much too self absorbed for my taste but is definitely a great singer. George seemed flattered with all her flirting, as were all the male callers. Great fun!

Brian Day: Guilty of queue jumping or just a responsible parent?

Today, CBC Radio's Cross-Country Checkup is featuring a discussion about Dr. Brian Day's recent admission that he twice used connections to get himself and his young daughter ahead of the line for medical treatment.

Before the show even starts, I sent host, Rex Murphy, this e-mail:

I'd like to make a comment prior to any callers voicing their opinions on whether Dr. Brian Day was right or wrong about using his connections to get faster service for himself and his 5 year-old daughter. One might be able to make a legitimate argument that he shouldn't have done so for himself, though he could make an even better argument that restoring his own health as quickly as possibly meant that dozens, if not hundreds, of other patients were helped out as well.

But if anyone dares espouse that they would let their own 5-year old child suffer longer out of some sort of homage to "Canadian fairness" then they should immediately be called a liar. If they convincingly dispute this charge then the authorities should be called immediately to rescue their children, because they are clearly an unfit parent. Making such a claim is akin to a pacifist saying that they would not protect their child, through defensive violence if necessary, if an intruder broke into their home and threatened their child. Any person who actually stood on [very misguided] principle rather than defend their child resides in an area well beyond selfishness.

Good People, Good Food!

I had many people to visit this weekend, so I rented a car to get around in a more reasonable time period. Without it I could have never accomplished all that I needed to.

The car was a Buick Allure. I'd never had driven this model before. It was stylish, had a very quiet engine, and a smooth ride. It also had a Satellite radio featuring XM Radio. I'd never experienced this before so it was quite a treat. In addition to some great music channels such as this one, it also featured talk radio channels from BBC, CNN, and Fox News. Perhaps the most interesting channel was one called "POTUS 08". I'll leave it to you to figure out what was on it - my politically savvy American readers should instantly know!

John Batchelor, mi numero uno favorito radio show host is back! He will be returning once per week, 7 - 10pm ET (4 - 7pm PT) every Sunday on WABC. His truly is the most comprehensive, most informative radio program anywhere. Give it a listen if you want to learn what's really going on in the world!

A Great Late Night Radio Show

I've started listening on a regular basis to "Big George", an eccentric Brit who hosts a crazy, commercial free radio show on BBC London. Over there it runs live between 2am and 6am but here are the listening times in North America:

• Western Coast: 6pm - 10pm
• Eastern Coast: 9pm - 1am

On-Air in Montreal

Most every weekday evening I listen online to Peter Anthony Holder on CJAD in Montreal. I tend to do my programming late and listening to Peter's show keeps me wide awake! This evening the station's transmitter was being repaired so they couldn't broadcast in the normal fashion. So he invited people who listen outside of the Montreal region to write him with their phone number. I did so and we had a nice conversation for about 15 minutes.

Peter has a most interesting show, offering lots of comedy and an eclectic series of guests.

In case you're not familiar with Dennis Miller's humour, he's famous for the esoteric references he makes to pop culture, often making outrageous metaphors relating completely disparate subjects. You can catch his excellent radio show here.

The Dennis Miller Radio Show

One of my favourite comedians, Dennis Miller, started appearing on his own radio show on Monday, March 26, 2007. I've listened to the podcast of the program every single day since it began.

Critics dismiss Miller has right-wing conservative. A completely unfounded accusation. He's very middle of the road, much like the Pragmatic Libertarian that I am. What I especially like about the show is that he truly, truly listens to what people have to say and challenge them, in a polite way, to support their views. So, for example, when one caller stated the other day that he was convinced that 9/11 was a conspiracy of the American Government, rather than just dismissing him as a conspiracy nutcase, he sincerely asked him whether he really believed this or was just saying it for effect.

Finally, A Smart Decision by Corus Radio

It was just announced that veteran radio broadcaster, Roy Green, will be taking over Peter Warren's old 11am - 2pm (PT) slot on the weekends on the Corus Network across Canada.

Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant Decision!

Now if they would just hire David Berner back for the slot immediately afterwards then they'd be back in my good books all around!

The Retirement of a Truly Great Canadian

Hamilton talkshow radio host, Roy Green, is retiring from regular Monday - Friday duty tomorrow. Via the Internet I've been listening to him since 2005. In his own words, he's a "Pragmatic Libertarian" but I just consider him a pillar of common sense and practical solutions to everyday problems.

Roy kindly let me call in to his program today to publicly wish him well in his retirement. Tomorrow at 8:30am on CHML he will announce what his plans are for retirement. If we are lucky then he will periodically still be heard on the airwaves of Canada. Best of luck in retirement, Roy!!!
