John Kaponi Paper Review on Big George's Show

While I'm working, I frequently listen to ["Big"] George Webley's show on BBC London Radio. So much so that he has given me the nickname of "Doctor Robert". I like it because it allows me to honestly say, "I'm not a real doctor but I play one on the BBC".

John Kaponi is the editor of the TheLondonDailyNews.com. Once a week he appears on George's show, where the two of them do a fairly comprehensive review of the latest newspapers. Here's a video of part of their segment:

Big George's show used to begin at 2am London time but now starts at 10pm over there. If you live in North America, then you can listen to it at these times:

• 2 - 6pm : Pacific
• 3 - 7pm : Mountain
• 4 - 8pm : Central
• 5 - 9pm : Eastern

P.S. I know that this video seems a little dry & serious but most of the show is actually quite comical & lively. Listening to it is a great way to get a feel for the zeitgeist of the UK.

I can't help from thinking that if the same event occurred today, the British soldiers would be brought up on charges by the horde of politically correct officials infested throughout the British Government. The charges? Why of course for not using a "measured response" to stop the terrorists.

This is the de facto charge against Israel these days every time it retaliates when rockets are fired against its citizens. If there is a God, she must be laughing at the absolute idiocy of so many of our species!

London Mayoralty Election: The 8-Year Socialist Experiment is Over

I've been careful following the Election for Mayor in London, England. If you don't live there you may be surprised to learn that the latest incarnation of this position has only been in existence since 2000. And since then it has been occupied by a devout Socialist named Ken Livingstone.

Much like the federal Liberal government in Canada, Livingstone and his Labour Party cronies have successfully played the race card with great success. But in the process taxes have gone sky-high, the bureaucracy has inflated in size, and corruption scandals have become the norm. In other words, just par for the course for a Socialist Mecca!

At the same time, crime has risen dramatically and the fear of crime has risen even higher. Such is the Socialist mentality of looking at everyone as a victim ... especially if the perpetrator is a minority.
The hard working, law abiding citizens of London are absolutely fed up and finally said, "Enough is Enough!" They've tossed Livingstone out and elected Conservative candidate Boris Johnson. The jury's still out about Johnson but clearly he can't be any worse than "Red Ken".

Coincidentally, my city of Vancouver has been following a similar pattern of one incompetent mayor after another. Our latest is not technically a socialist but is just as incompetent as one. One day things will get so bad that a right-thinking mayor will be elected and clean up the mess.

John Kaponi, a well regarded citizen of London, has launched a new online newspaper called The London Daily News. If you want to learn what is really going on in one of the world's most prominent cities then this is the place to go!

Incidentally, John can often be heard reviewing the news of the day on BBC London Radio, Sunday - Thursday at 6pm PDT (9pm EDT). I found it absolutely fascinating to listen to such discussions from the other side of the earth.

Just Another Typical Day in London

Politically correct Deputy Minister of the British Labour Party, Harriet Harman, went for a stroll in the London neighbourhood of Peckham. Not only was she surrounded by a phalanx of policemen but she also wore a stab-proof kevlar vest. There's a growing controversy over why Ms. Harman felt it necessary to have so much protection. Perhaps this is a sign that she's going to be issuing free kevlar vests to all the citizens of Peckham? Or maybe it's just further evidence that she's a complete political twit?!

Driving an SUV in London

Do you think it's expensive to drive where you live? In London, England the daily fee for SUVs driving in the central part of the city will rise from £8 to £25 in late October. That works out to about US$48.75 per day. And the fee applies even if you live in that part of the city!!!

Are Food Banks Helping or Hindering The Homeless?

I've was working late and, as I often do, was listening to BBC London's morning show. An interesting discussion erupted about whether "soup runs" (the British term for "soup kitchens") are a good or a bad idea. There was a reference to this editorial from a charity organization called "Thames Reach".

I found it extremely interesting and I think that everything said therein applies just as much to food banks.

I realize it's not popular to criticize charity initiatives but I am very skeptical of anything that serves as a "hand out" rather than a "hand up".

A Great Late Night Radio Show

I've started listening on a regular basis to "Big George", an eccentric Brit who hosts a crazy, commercial free radio show on BBC London. Over there it runs live between 2am and 6am but here are the listening times in North America:

• Western Coast: 6pm - 10pm
• Eastern Coast: 9pm - 1am

Fascinating Words from a Former Islamic Terrorist

I came across this article by accident but am glad I did. It describes very succinctly why all this soul searching that many in the West do to figure out why "they hate us so" is all a complete waste of time and effort.

Here's a very telling passage:

The attempts to cause mass destruction in London and Glasgow are so reminiscent of other recent British Islamic extremist plots that they are likely to have been carried out by my former peers.

And as with previous terror attacks, people are again saying that violence carried out by Muslims is all to do with foreign policy.

For example, on Saturday on Radio 4's Today programme, the Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, said: "What all our intelligence shows about the opinions of disaffected young Muslims is the main driving force is not Afghanistan, it is mainly Iraq."

I left the British Jihadi Network in February 2006 because I realised that its members had simply become mindless killers. But if I were still fighting for their cause, I'd be laughing once again.
