Significant Opposition to Environmental Scaremongering

On Sunday October 18th at 8pm EDT (5pm EDT) the world premiere of a new film called Not Evil, Just Wrong will be shown at theatres around the world. In Vancouver it'll be playing at the Hollywood Theatre at 3123 West Broadway.

Here's a video of the filmmaker, Phelim McAleer, asking Al Gore a simple question (which he refused to answer) :

Dennis Miller interviews McAleer on his radio show:

And here, at 4:30, is Miller commenting on Al Gore's embarrassing performance:

Here is Lord Christopher Monckton talking about the same subject:

Inconvenient Truths ... for Global Warming Alarmists

Al Gore is about to feature in a new movie, but he’s not going to like it very much. Titled Not Evil Just Wrong: The True Cost of Global Warming Hysteria, the film presents a devastating account of the shaky foundations and hefty price of Mr. Gore’s brand of self-interested and hypocritical alarmism.

Created by the Irish film making duo of Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney — who made another excellent documentary about the “dark side of environmentalism” called Mine Your Own Business — Not Evil provides the perfect rebuttal to Mr. Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth.

So starts a superb new article from Peter Foster about a new movie which will be released later this year. Do read it and then do watch the film! Sadly, many on the Left will refuse to watch and just prefer to follow this mantra.

Be Skeptical of Global Warming Fearmongers

Dr. Roy Spencer is a climatologist and former NASA scientist. He's also very skeptical of global warming hysteria proffered by the likes of Al Gore and David Suzuki. Here's his website. And here you can listen to an interview of him by Roy Green.

Al Gore's Perfect Storm

Victor Davis Hanson wonders why anyone on the Left is complaining about the current economic downturn. After all, this is but a small step on the way to Al Gore's nirvana.

It Doesn't Compute... [Victor Davis Hanson]

I'm very puzzled by the nexus between the current downturn and concern about global warming. Given that we were told we had to immediately cut back on carbon emissions (even before sustainable alternative energies are in place), largely by curbing our lavish energy-dependent lifestyles, why then all the concern about stimuli and global depression? Surely, the world right now is sort of what the radical Gorists wanted to see, since the current cutback in gasoline usage, and general economic slowdown are radically restricting the burning of fossil fuels in a manner that even the most optimistic green utopian could hardly have envisioned just few years ago? In other words, in the booming 2004-6 years, radical suggested scale-backs would have probably led to something akin to what we are experiencing now? So why the gloom instead of headlines blaring—"The Planet Continues to Green—as Archaic Consumption Practices Erode Further!"

A Winter Poem

'WINTER 2008'
a poem by
Stephane Dion

Though I should be da prime minister of Canada now,
I refuse to let it get me down.
Me and da Liberals came so close to our Green Plan
For every woman, child, and even every man.

But I look at da snow covering the country now,
And only one word comes to mind: How?
So I clearly don't feel like singing a song,
But instead will just chant that Al Gore is a real ding-dong!

The End

The Downright Nastiness of "Progressives"

Amy Alkon has an interesting blog posting about the nastiness of the Extreme Left vs. the Extreme Right. I didn't know it until now, but it turns out that her political views are very similar to my own: A fiscal conservative but a pragmatic libertarian. And her observations about which groups get the most nasty when you dare to disagree with them very much parallels my own experiences.

We're not the only ones. Dennis Miller, a well known comedian, TV personality, and radio talkshow host, has frequently commented on the differences. When his views were mostly left of center he was mildly rebuked by some conservatives. But now that some (repeat, some) of his views are right of center, the vitriolic scorn and hate he has received by so many on the left is nothing short of shameful for the so-called "progressive" movement. Note: I always put "progressive" in quotes because it's a false label. On many issues, left of center views are not progressive (read "positive") whatsoever. I will forever remember one caller saying, "You know Dennis, for several decades I always thought you were a bright, clever guy but now, after you've sided with Bush on the Iraq War, I think you're a complete idiot." Miller calmly responded: "So for a long time you thought I was quite a smart guy but now, just because I disagree with you on one issue, you've completely reversed your entire thinking about me? Such wise reflection there."

I have also read comments from several gay men, such as this one. While some family & friends had some difficulty accepting these men when they came out of the closet, it compared not a whit to the scorn they suffered when they came out of the closet, so to speak, with their political views. Is it very progressive of a "progressive" to ostracize all those who don't follow the group think of the sheep herd?

I know for a fact that I've been ostracized by many so-called friends for my political views. My ongoing support for Stephen Harper and my continued support for the longterm goals of the Iraq War (though I detest Bush's refusal to curtail the growth of the public sector) has left me outside the herd for years. Many felt that they could make me switch my views through ridicule. How wrong they were. All I ever wanted to do was discuss the issues, using facts. When it became clear to them that their facts were minimal and their rhetorical talking points could not be backed up, they got angry. Now they've just stopped talking with me. C'est la vie!

Another point of contention has been the issue of Global Warming. For some time the likes of Al Gore and David Suzuki got away with preposterous statements like "the debate is over" and "there are those like us who love the planet and then there are the global warming deniers". What's become crystal clear is that no scientific debate is ever over. In fact, I heard a commentator say the other day that Gore and Suzuki have about 2 more years left. Then it'll become patently clear that the earth is not in a warming trend but rather in a cooling one. As for the "denier" label, I can think of nothing more horrific and insulting to the survivors of the Nazi Holocaust than using this word. A writer in Vancouver expands on this. Anyone who has ever uttered the phrase "global warming denier" to silence someone they're arguing with owes a profound apology to the 6 Millions Jews and others who lives were extinguished by Hitler & Co.

"Progressives" who meet me anew don't know what to make of my views on global warming et al. When I say that I'm against carbon taxes, am against carbon credits, and am in support of initiatives like twinning the Port Mann Bridge, their natural inclination is to start throwing nasty pejoratives at me about how I'm not helping the environment. That's when the fun begins. I ask them what kind of vehicle they drive, how much they drive to work, and what sort of home they live in. In every situation to date, my carbon footprint is exceedingly less than theirs!

My most recent "effort" to keep myself outside of the herd are my views on Barack Obama. Up until early February I was optimistic that he was a positive force for change on the American political scene. But then I started listening to him. Yikes! Not only is he more left wing than even Jimmy Carter (and that's saying a lot!) but he changes his views more quickly than a skier on a slalom course. He's just a politician like any other and even more of a politician than most. What irks and saddens me though is how so many of his supporters instantly call anyone a racist who dares to criticize him or his policies. Very convenient but very, very lazy. And intellectually weak to the extreme.

I fear that the next few months are going to be very nasty ones in the history of the United States. Which brings us back full circle to what Amy Alkon said about where most nastiness comes from in her experiences. She's not alone.

Are We The Problem?

In this interesting article, Mark Steyn illustrates how a growing number of Al Gore's disciples are working to shape public opinion to believe that those who have children are the greatest destroyers of the environment.

I hope I'm around in 50 years to witness historians comment on what utter and complete foolishness the thinking of the early years of the new millennium was!

More on Gore

You've just got to read this! Here's a snippet:

One of the world's foremost meteorologists has called the theory that helped Al Gore share the Nobel Peace Prize "ridiculous" and the product of "people who don't understand how the atmosphere works".

Dr William Gray, a pioneer in the science of seasonal hurricane forecasts, told a packed lecture hall at the University of North Carolina that humans were not responsible for the warming of the earth.

The New Religion

This afternoon, CKNW's Sean Leslie had a guest named Ian Bruce on his show (8:40). Bruce comes with the title of "climate change specialist" within David Suzuki's Foundation. He probably throws around that title to impress women at all the Commercial Street coffee shops! Makes you wonder if that title and 2 loonies buys him more than a cup of coffee?!

I was so outraged by this elitist hack that I wrote Sean a letter which he read on the air (57:15) :

Sean,

Your interview with Ian Bruce of the Suzuki Foundation was telling; not surprising, but telling.

He's yet another blind disciple of the new religion called "Environmentalism", headed by their high priest, Al Gore. His smug, belittling contempt for anyone who dares question his religion would be insulting if it weren't so laughable. No legitimate scientist would ever avoid questions and debate. Yet Bruce wouldn't directly answer one of the criticisms you cited of Al Gore's film.

Does it make me a member of the Flat Earth Society to ask the following questions:

1. If the alleged increase in temperature on Earth is primarily due to man then how come the temperature on Mars is also going up?
2. It has now been proven that if current iceberg melt rates continue that Greenland will under water in 500 to 1000 years. So why did Gore say that it would be in his lifetime? Is he the new Moses?

What's sad about all of this is that people like me would generally be onboard with reducing energy consumption if it wasn't for all of the clearly false rhetoric espoused by the Ian Bruces of the world. His insistence that Canada so quickly destroy its own economy is downright scary. If he'd like to see the opposite of peace then he better be hoping that his dreams for a bankrupt Canada, full of unemployment come true!

Robert W.

Incidentally, my last paragraph isn't empty rhetoric. I gave up my car by choice 5 years ago. Just didn't feel I needed one and still don't. BUT I'm fortunate enough to have a lifestyle where I don't need one! I work for myself at my home office so my commute is only about 15 seconds. If any environmentalist wants to compare "energy footprints" with me, they'll lose; well, except for those who have moved into a cave.

I would never tell anyone in Surrey or Langley or Maple Ridge or White Rock that they must give up their vehicle and take public transportation in ... or else they're a "bad person". What nonsense! I already feel bad for those people who have to commute 60+ minutes to work everyday. To me, there's nothing more aggravating than being stuck in traffic. Why the likes of Ian Bruce and Carole James and Stephane Dion want to make it even harder for them is absolutely beyond my wildest comprehension. Frankly, it's just cruel.

Is it possible that these environmental zealots have ever stopped for a second to consider that the rhetoric they're espousing closely resembles that used by overzealous Christian missionaries toward Natives in early Canada? True, the subjects they preach about are quite different but the "you are ignorant, we know best" mentality is strikingly identical. And sickening!

Has Hell Frozen Over?

The worst kept secret this week has finally been revealed. Though no one can provide a good answer as to why, Al Gore has won the Nobel Peace Prize, sharing it with a UN Climate Panel.

The meaningfulness of this award has been in doubt for some time now, as the process has clearly been biased by a severe left-wing political agenda. How else to explain Yasser Arafat and Jimmy Carter winning it in years past. For what? The former was a corrupt terrorist and the latter was an inept, ineffectual president.

So what precisely did Gore do to win this award? He made a political propaganda film, proven to be full of errors. But as the High Priest of the New Religion of Environmentalism, a lack of facts coming out of his mouth doesn't seem to bother the true believers.

It's more than a little ironic though that the same week he won this award, a High Court Judge in Britain declared that the film "violated laws barring the promotion of partisan political views in the classroom", only allowing the film to be shown "on the condition that it is accompanied by guidance notes to balance Gore's 'one-sided' views".

All of this leads me to postulate that had the average person been asked 6 months ago whether Al Gore would win the Nobel Peace Prize, a common response would have been, "sure, when hell freezes over!" I wonder if the devil is busy shoveling this very minute?!?

Al Gore: Eco-Messiah or Eco-Hypocrite?

In his typical brilliant fashion, Mark Steyn illuminates the truth behind Mr. Eco-Friendly himself, Al Gore in this article. While reading it, think back to Leonardo's di Caprio's proclamation that "this year's Oscars have gone Green". Everyone in the audience did . . . exactly nothing and yet they've apparently gone green. Talk about trying to pull the [environmentally friendly organic] wool over our eyes!

If you're Canadian and reading this, remember Steyn's article when Stephane Dion is giving us his next lecture about what we need to do to be more green. I'd love to see his energy consumption bill!
