What I'm Reading

Comedy, Bullies, and American Politics - by Rosslyn Smith

This has got to be one of the most well written articles I've read in some time. The author ties together several threads - comedians who have become bullies, mysoginists, and conservatives who refuse to defend themselves. Here's a snippet:

For years now much of our comedy has gotten increasingly mean. It laughs less and less at the contradictions inherent in the human condition and increasingly picks out and personalizes targets to demean and humiliate. In the world of the comedian-cum-bully, wit has been replaced with name calling and the wry irony of the nerdish observer with the swagger of the schoolyard bully who decides who is among the in group and who are "them", the outcasts to be made the butt of every mean spirited politically correct joke. Name calling is the stock in trade of the bully. So is telling the target who protests, "What's a matter, can't you take a joke?"

The smothering embrace of nanny government - Mark Steyn

Speaking to an American audience, most of whom know not a thing about socialized medicine except what Michael Moore has told them, Steyn draws comparisons with things the readers will likely be familiar with. Here's a segment:

When President Barack Obama tells you he's "reforming" health care to "control costs," the point to remember is that the only way to "control costs" in health care is to have less of it. In a government system, the doctor, the nurse, the janitor and the Assistant Deputy Associate Director of Cost-Control System Management all have to be paid every Friday, so the sole means of "controlling costs" is to restrict the patient's access to treatment. In the Province of Quebec, patients with severe incontinence – i.e., they're in the bathroom 12 times a night – wait three years for a simple 30-minute procedure. True, Quebeckers have a year or two on Americans in the life expectancy hit parade, but, if you're making 12 trips a night to the john 365 times a year for three years, in terms of life-spent-outside-the-bathroom expectancy, an uninsured Vermonter may actually come out ahead.

Nonsense has me incensed - Lorrie Goldstein

Goldstein has devoted a lot of his recent career to carefully researching the entire issue of so-called global warming and the politics behind it. He starts off his latest piece as follows:

Let me put an argument to you which will enrage the entire congregation of The First Church of Global Warming.

That is, that man-made climate change does not pose an existential threat to humanity.

"Climate-change diasters kill 300,000 a year"

That headline is a few weeks old but something I just read today. Incidentally, the misspelling of the "D" word was the Washington Post's, not mine. Here are the first two paragraphs of the story:

LONDON -- Climate-change disasters kill around 300,000 people a year and cause about $125 billion in economic losses, mainly from agriculture, a think-tank led by former U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan reported Friday.

The Global Humanitarian Forum also estimated that 325 million people are seriously affected by climate change _ a number it says will double by 2030, as more people are hit by natural disasters or suffer environmental degradation caused by climate change.

I can assert with great confidence that the story and all of the numbers are clearly bogus but yet this is the CRAP that substitutes for real news these days.

The Forthcoming [Fraudulent] Global Warming Tax

The Telegraph has published a very informative article regarding the actual costs of upcoming Cap & Trade programs (read "taxes") in both the UK and the USA. Current estimates are as follows:

  • UK: £760 per household every year for four decades
  • USA: $4,500 per household every year (duration not provided)
Talk about kicking a person when they're down! This is the full intent of Gordon Brown and Barack Obama toward their citizens.

And remember, this is all to "fight" a "problem" that a growing number of skeptics say does not exist. Gordon Brown, who has come close to bankrupting Britain during his reign as the Exchequer and now as the Prime Minister, clearly DOES NOT CARE. Watch for Barack Obama to leave a very similar legacy. :-(

Update: Later in the day I discovered that Lord Christopher Monckton discussed this very subject with Roy Green. You can listen to it here, beginning at 6:00.

Inconvenient Truths ... for Global Warming Alarmists

Al Gore is about to feature in a new movie, but he’s not going to like it very much. Titled Not Evil Just Wrong: The True Cost of Global Warming Hysteria, the film presents a devastating account of the shaky foundations and hefty price of Mr. Gore’s brand of self-interested and hypocritical alarmism.

Created by the Irish film making duo of Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney — who made another excellent documentary about the “dark side of environmentalism” called Mine Your Own Business — Not Evil provides the perfect rebuttal to Mr. Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth.

So starts a superb new article from Peter Foster about a new movie which will be released later this year. Do read it and then do watch the film! Sadly, many on the Left will refuse to watch and just prefer to follow this mantra.

What I'm Reading

Lorrie Goldstein lambastes all of the hypocrites who participated in Earth Hour last night.

As for the rest of you, congratulations. Because if a billion people around the world joined you in turning off their lights for an hour last night, while telepathically singing Kumbaya together and giving the Earth a great, big, warm (oh !@?!@$#, I mean a "cool") hug, you just saved the equivalent amount of greenhouse gas emissions from going into the atmosphere that China emits every ... six seconds.

Mark Steyn outlines how Barack the Benevolent is going to change the fractured world into one harmonious world - his.

The 44th president is proposing to add more to the national debt than the first 43 presidents combined, doubling it in the next six years, and tripling it within the decade. But to talk about it in percentages of this and trillions of that misses the point. It's not about bookkeeping, it's about government annexation of the economy, and thus of life: government supervision, government regulation, government control. No matter how small your small business is – plumbing, hairdressing, maple-sugaring – the state will be burdening you with more permits, more paperwork, more bureaucracy.

The National Post has a comprehensive & interesting article on Canada's Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister, Jason Kenney. As someone who directly interfaces with various immigrant communities on a regular basis, I applaud his efforts in the loudest possible way!

I LOVE the fact that we have so many new immigrants from all over the world but I absolutely believe that they have a duty to learn English (or French). In fact, I think it should become a requirement to attain citizenship. Also, I believe that the self-imposed ghettos that have been created in various cities is unhealthy to the extreme.

My message to immigrants is simple: Welcome to Canada, but become a true Canadian, not a hyphenated one!

8 Questions for Obama's New Science Guy

It appears that Canada isn't the only country that has truth-challenged talking heads who contribute a disproportionate amount of hot air to the environment. Barack Obama has nominated John Holdren to be Director of the Office of Science Technology Policy. Jeff Jacoby has 8 important questions for him.

Elizabeth May Embarrasses Herself on CKNW

For someone supposedly so well educated, the Green Party's Elizabeth May truly seems to enjoy making a complete fool of herself on a regular basis. Today she appeared on CKNW, renewing her standing as Canadian Federal Political Village Idiot. At the risk of temporarily lowering your IQ, you can listen to her by clicking here (7:30).

One caller pointed out how May has had to alter her language, now being forced to use the term "Climate Change" rather than "Global Warming" - because of the extreme cold being experienced by people the world over. In response to this, May said that she has always used "Climate Change". Sure Lizzie, sure.

Be Skeptical of Global Warming Fearmongers

Dr. Roy Spencer is a climatologist and former NASA scientist. He's also very skeptical of global warming hysteria proffered by the likes of Al Gore and David Suzuki. Here's his website. And here you can listen to an interview of him by Roy Green.

A Winter Poem

'WINTER 2008'
a poem by
Stephane Dion

Though I should be da prime minister of Canada now,
I refuse to let it get me down.
Me and da Liberals came so close to our Green Plan
For every woman, child, and even every man.

But I look at da snow covering the country now,
And only one word comes to mind: How?
So I clearly don't feel like singing a song,
But instead will just chant that Al Gore is a real ding-dong!

The End

Global Warming: Been Feeling Guilty Lately?

Over the past year have you been feeling increasingly guilty about everything you do? Thinking twice about taking a flight somewhere?

There have been great forces at work to make you feel absolutely convinced that you are the source of the problem and that you must change your ways immediately or the world will be destroyed within the next few centuries. Al Gore wants you to feel this way. Stephane Dion wants you to feel this way. The Green Party everywhere wants you to feel this way. Indirectly, these same forces want the poorest people on the planet to remain in poverty for perpetuity.

Finally, in a breakthrough documentary, some sense and facts have been brought to the surface. I implore you to watch this important film and forward the link to everyone you know. Or just tell them to search Google Video for "global warming swindle". It's over an hour in length but well worth your time, I promise you!

Finally the wool is being removed from all of our eyes.
