The Forthcoming [Fraudulent] Global Warming Tax

The Telegraph has published a very informative article regarding the actual costs of upcoming Cap & Trade programs (read "taxes") in both the UK and the USA. Current estimates are as follows:

  • UK: £760 per household every year for four decades
  • USA: $4,500 per household every year (duration not provided)
Talk about kicking a person when they're down! This is the full intent of Gordon Brown and Barack Obama toward their citizens.

And remember, this is all to "fight" a "problem" that a growing number of skeptics say does not exist. Gordon Brown, who has come close to bankrupting Britain during his reign as the Exchequer and now as the Prime Minister, clearly DOES NOT CARE. Watch for Barack Obama to leave a very similar legacy. :-(

Update: Later in the day I discovered that Lord Christopher Monckton discussed this very subject with Roy Green. You can listen to it here, beginning at 6:00.

Canada vs. America: Health Care, Taxes

One of my favourite writers is Amy Alkon, based out of Los Angeles. In the comments of this recent piece, her and some others delved into the cost of health care in America. Here's the comment I left:

This idea that health care insurance costs are out of control in the U.S. is pure fantasy IMO.

Amy is 45 and pays $300 per month.

I'm a year younger and pay $52 per month here in Canuckistan. I don't have a personal doctor because when my last one moved away it has become exceedingly impossible to find one who will take patients (and I live in a very urban area!). So if I get sick my alternatives are to go to a clinic or go to the Emergency at the local hospital. From anecdotal evidence from friends, I know that the wait each time will be in the order of 2 - 6 hours. Is that the "great" health care system you Americans are looking for?

Getting back to cost, here's a calculator to determine what Canadians pay in income tax. Plus, in BC we pay 12% sales tax (5% federal + 7% provincial) on most everything we buy.

How does our income & consumption tax compare with where you live?

Endless Taxes Facing Canadians

This new article from Lorrie Goldstein is more than a little disturbing. It shows a growing class system evolving in Canada, separating highly protected public sector employees from private sector employees who face a very different reality.

Based on the figures outlined in the article, I've produced two pie-charts illustrating how much tax has to be paid by Canadians:

The Corporate Welfare Wish-List Grows Longer

"The forest industry wants the federal government to maintain $300 million in existing programs, add a new program worth $300 million over five years and speed up tax breaks to create "world-class business conditions," says Avrim Lazar, president of the Forest Products Association of Canada."

That's how this story opened. While I will never argue with tax reductions, they should be across the board and not for specific industries.

Economists will endlessly argue about the correct amount of personal welfare, but IMHO any corporate welfare is wrong, wrong, wrong. But now that it looks like billions will be given to the Big 3 Automakers, it's not unexpected that everyone else (and their dogs too!) will be putting out their hands as well.

May I share with you that one of my dreams for Canada is a flat tax for individuals and companies with NO exceptions. There are too many vested interested for it to ever happen but I'm absolutely convinced it is what should be done.

Obama's Big Vote Buy

Amy Alkon just published a biting article, asking why so many Americans are so eager to give Barack Obama much more of their money.

Here's the comment I left:

Much like a parent doesn't want their child to learn about touching a stove by actually getting burned, those of us outside the U.S. who have not had our minds numbed by the Socialist Kool-Aid, are hoping against hope that Americans don't embark on Obama's Great Socialist Experiment. But this suggests that you are.

And Michael Medved has a detailed article on why the changes made in an Obamanation will be permanent and devastating.

I have never felt that McCain is the optimal choice but it truly is shocking to me how so many Americans have been brain washed by the socialist rhetoric espoused by Obama and his many protective pals in the MSM.

Let's talk 2 years from now and see if many still feel Obama is the transformative Messiah figure that so many currently espouse him to be.

Who Pays The Bill in America

Kind of throw a wrench into how Obama is going to cut taxes for 95% of Americans. But on this and many other things I'm convinced most people are going to be very disappointed when reality hits home by mid 2009 in an Obamanation.

A Little More Insight Into the BC Human Rights Tribunal

In reading their annual report, I've discovered that the chair of this organization is one Heather MacNaughton. Here are their most recent cost figures:

A New Requirement to Receive Welfare?

Today, I heard something very interesting that I'd like to throw out for open discussion. A fellow working up in the Alberta oil sands drives heavy machinery and, as such, must submit a urine sample once a month to prove that he his not taking any drugs. His company takes safety very seriously and anyone on drugs operating such equipment would put countless lives at risk.

So in essence, a requirement for him to be paid every month is to submit to a drug test. He earns well over $100,000 per year, a big portion of which is paid in income tax, which goes toward the services that all Canadians enjoy.

Now let's compare him with someone on welfare. Is not welfare a temporary measure that provides short term funding until a person can find a job again? That's what I always thought it was for. If someone is being paid by the government in this way, then what responsibilities do they have? If their primary objective is to find a job then wouldn't it be fair to say that being high on drugs some or all of the time would not be conducive to getting hired?

That oil sands worker strongly believes that everyone who agrees to receive welfare must also agree to a compulsory drug test. What say you?

Average Canadian family spends more on taxes than life's necessities

Monday, April 16, 2007 - Canadian Press

VANCOUVER

Taxes are taking a bigger chunk out of the average Canadian family income than food, clothing and housing combined, a new survey suggests.

The Fraser Institute says the Canadian Consumer Tax Index is up significantly in the past 45 years.

The average Canadian family earned $63,000 in 2006, with nearly 45 per cent of that going to taxes.

Just over 35 per cent was spent on food, clothing and housing.

In 1961, the institute says just 33.5 per cent of income went to taxes.

The tax index includes direct taxation, such as income taxes, sales taxes, Employment Insurance and Canadian Pension Plan contributions, as well as hidden taxes, such as import duties, gas taxes and excise taxes on tobacco and alcohol.
