Merry Christmas Wishes from Ezra Levant

Late last night Ezra Levant republished an editorial he had written back in 2004. Here are the opening few lines:

Allow me to be the first Jew to say to you "Merry Christmas." Not "season's greetings." Not "happy holidays." Merry Christmas. Nothing added, nothing taken away.

Once, not so long ago, the chief challenge for Christians at this time of year was putting Christ back into Christmas -- reminding the faithful that Christmas isn't just about egg nog and presents, but that it was a celebration of the Christian God and His birth. Today, the battle isn't to keep Christ in Christmas -- it's to keep Christmas at all.

To which I left this comment:

Ezra, from the bottom of my heart I want to thank you for this wonderful editorial!

A few days ago I wrote about the same subject [on my blog and on Facebook] and focused in on the politically correct games that Zellers has been playing.

I received some pretty resentful e-mails from people, stating that I was a "zealot" and that there were more important things to be worrying about.

Isn't it telling that when members of the Secular Radical Left in Canada complain about things, they're righteous and equivalent to human rights violations in places where people literally lose life or limb.

A comedian responds to a heckler who happens to be a lesbian. She brings him up on a "humans rights" charge. Oh yes, what an outlandish thing for him to do. Even Robert Mugabe has never been so despicable!

But when any of us "dare" to point out the constant Drip-Drip-Drip attacks against Christians and Christianity then somehow we're exaggerating and not worrying about the really important things in life.

I will keep on fighting for what I believe in and know you will too. May the Year 2009 be a great one for you and your family!

The Infamous Patti Lewis Holiday Party Tale

MEMO TO ALL EMPLOYEES
RE: Christmas PARTY ON DEC. 23RD
DATE: DEC. 1ST

I'm happy to inform you that the company Christmas Party will take place on

December 23, starting at noon in the banquet room at Luigi's Open Pit Barbecue. No-host bar, but plenty of eggnog! We'll have a small band playing traditional carols...feel free to sing along. And don't be surprised if our CEO shows up dressed as Santa Claus! A Christmas tree will be lit at 1:00 P.M. Exchange of gifts among employees can be done at that time, however, no gift should be over $10.00 to make the giving of gifts easy for everyone's pockets. This gathering is only for employees! A special announcement will be made by our CEO at that time!

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Patty

RE: Holiday Party

In no way was yesterday's memo intended to exclude our Jewish employees.

We recognize that Chanukah is an important holiday which often coincides with Christmas, though unfortunately not this year. However, from now on we're calling it our "Holiday Party." The same policy applies to employees who are celebrating Kwanzaa at this time. There will be no Christmas tree present. No Christmas carols sung. We will have other type of music for your enjoyment.

Happy now?

Happy Holidays to you and your family.

Regarding the note I received from a member of Alcoholics Anonymous requesting a non-drinking table ... you didn't sign your name. I'm happy to accommodate this request, but if I put a sign on a table that reads, "AA Only"; you wouldn't be anonymous anymore. How am I supposed to handle this? Somebody?

Forget about the gifts exchange, no gifts exchange are allowed since the union members feel that $10.00 is too much money and executives believe $10.00 is very little for a gift. NO GIFTS EXCHANGE WILL BE ALLOWED.

RE: Holiday Party

What a diverse group we are! I had no idea that December 20 begins the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which forbids eating and drinking during daylight hours. There goes the party! Seriously, we can appreciate how a luncheon this time of year does not accommodate

our Muslim employees' beliefs. Perhaps Luigi's can hold off on serving your meal until the end of the party — the days are so short this time of year — or else package everything for take home in little foil swans. Will that work?

Meanwhile, I've arranged for members of Overeaters Anonymous to sit farthest from the dessert buffet and pregnant women will get the table closest to the restrooms. Gays are allowed to sit with each other. Lesbians do not have to sit with Gay men, each will have their own table. Yes, there will be flower arrangement for the Gay men's table. To the person asking permission to cross dress, no cross dressing allowed though. We will have booster seats for short people. Low-fat food will be available for those on a diet. We cannot control the salt used in the food we suggest for those people with high blood problems to taste first. There will be fresh fruits as dessert for Diabetics, the restaurant cannot supply "No Sugar" desserts. Sorry!

Did I miss anything?

So December 22 marks the Winter Solstice...what do you expect me to do, a tap-dance on your heads? Fire regulations at Luigi's prohibit the burning of sage by our "earth-based Goddess-worshiping" employees, but we'll try to accommodate your shamanic drumming circle during the band's breaks. Okay???

RE: Holiday Party

People, people, nothing sinister was intended by having our CEO dress up like Santa Claus! Even if the anagram of "Santa" does happen to be "Satan," there is no evil connotation to our own "little man in a red suit." It's a tradition, folks, like sugar shock at Halloween or family feuds over the thanksgiving turkey or broken hearts on Valentine's Day.

Could we lighten up? Please????????? Also the company has changed their mind in announcing the special announcement at the gathering. You will get a notification in the mail sent to your home.

I have no #%&*@*^ idea what the announcement is all about. What the %#&^!@ do I care...I KNOW WHAT I AM GOING TO GET!!!!!!!!!!!! You change your address now and you are dead!!!!!!!!!!!! No more changes of address will be allowed in my office. Try to come in and change your address, I will have you hung from the ceiling in the warehouse!!!!!!!!!!!

Vegetarians!?!?!? I've had it with you people!!! We're going to keep this party at Luigi's Open Pit Barbecue whether you like it or not, so you can sit quietly at the table furthest from the "grill of death," as you so quaintly put it, and you'll get your #$%^&*! salad bar, including hydroponic tomatoes. But you know, they have feelings, too. Tomatoes scream when you slice them. I've heard them scream. I'm hearing them scream right now! > HA !

I hope you all have a rotten holiday! Drive drunk and die, you hear me!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure I speak for all of us in wishing Patty Lewis a speedy recovery from her stress-related illness and I'll continue to forward your cards to her at the sanitarium. In the meantime, management has decided to cancel our Holiday Party and give everyone the afternoon of the 23rd off with full pay.

Happy Holidays!

Discussion with a Russian

IMHO Mark Steyn is one of the most intelligent observers of our society today. And he does so from a global perspective. One of his favourite phrases is what he calls the "Drip-Drip-Drip" erosion of our culture. Simply put, when the majority believe that they need to feel guilty about most everything and that their heritage is more bad than good, then society is ruined.

In Canada we're not there yet but the fabric of our society is definitely torn. The UK is much further along in this regard. Some believe that the self-destruction of their society is a foregone conclusion.

So indeed, sometimes I do deliberately draw a line in the snow and say sorry but that's one step too far.

This evening I was out in Vancouver videoing some Christmas scenes. It's a rare occasion that we get snow in the city and even more rare right around Christmas. I encountered barely a soul all night but one woman did come along and on cross-country skis no less. We got to talking. She's from Russia. Towards the end of our conversation I asked her if she celebrated Christmas. She paused for a bit and then said, "Well, I'm from a socialist country and Christmas was not really allowed there. So it's not part of my tradition."

Ask yourself if you would like to live in a country where "Christmas was not really allowed". Then look at Canada today and see which direction our future is pointed in. If you're happy with that then cheer it on. As for me, I'll be one of the signposts along the way, warning you of where we're heading.

It is indeed your absolute right to ignore the warnings. But if you wake up one day and realize that the Drip-Drip-Drip erosion of our culture has taken us to a place not very appealing, be sure to stare in the mirror for a long time that day.

Two Days Before Christmas

Pete McMartin on the True Meaning of Christmas

The Vancouver Sun's Pete McMartin has written a beautiful column for Christmas that will bring joy to even the most cynical heart.

One of the Radical Left's Unexpected Consequences

There are often unintended consequences with every government policy. For the sake of argument, I'll accept that the creators of every public policy have positive intentions. But much too often the policies of the Radical Left (e.g. the NDP and certain elements of the Liberals in Canada) have a number of unintended negative consequences.

For decades now the politically correct set of the Left have been telling everyone that Christmas is strictly a Christian holiday and allowing it to be celebrated more broadly is hurting non-Christian minorities. Whether it has been scenes of Christ's birthplace on public property, the use of Christmas trees, or wishing someone Merry Christmas, all of these things have become politically incorrect actions.

There is no doubt that such anti-Christmas / anti-Christian campaigns have opened the door wide open for the likes of Anjem Choudary:

The lawyer, who recently praised the Mumbai terror attacks, urged all Muslims to reject traditional Christmas celebrations, claiming that they are forbidden by Allah.

The 41-year-old shocked Christians and even those of his own faith by branding yuletide festivities as "the pathway to hellfire".

Choudary, who is chairman of the Society of Muslim Lawyers, ruled out all celebrations, including having a Christmas tree, decorating the house or eating turkey.

In the sermon posted on an Islamic website, he said: "In the world today many Muslims, especially those residing in western countries, are exposed to the evil celebration Christmas.

It is true that the politically correct set are not directly responsible for Mr. Choudary's diatribe. But to take no responsibility whatsoever for laying the groundwork for him & his ilk is irresponsible to the extreme.

Recently I documented an example of how allowing the disparaging of an identifiable group can lead to harm much more significant than mere words. From an historical perspective it's easy to see the step-by-step progression of how German Nazis:
  1. Dehumanized Jews
  2. Imprisoned them
  3. Murdered them en masse
At the present time we have countless "progressives" who see nothing wrong with keeping up a constant barrage of verbal attacks and dehumanization of Christians and their traditions. I can only imagine what's going on in the minds of the perpetrators: "It's in fashion, 'everyone' is doing it, it's what the Kool Kids are doing!" So it's very clear that Step #1 is well under way.

"Yes, but we can never get to Step #2!", some will immediately respond. Really? Maybe not quite yet but then how would you explain what happened to Christian Pastor Stephen Boissoin earlier this year? I don't agree with his views but it has become perfectly clear that he was prosecuted by the Alberta HRC solely because he's a Christian. If you doubt that then you're not up to speed with what has recently happened in Quebec.

Coming full circle, I am absolutely in favour of Anjem Choudary being able to say whatever pleases his little heart. But it's then the responsibility of all concerned citizens to speak out against him.

Pre-Xmas in Vancouver

Wishing You an HRC-Approved, Politically Correct Holiday!

Whoah, how *dare* I step out of line and call people out on their political correct nonsense or *dare* make a joke about a writer of a newspaper up at Whistler that many amongst the Radical Left Drug Induced Kumbaya Set treat as their Bible. (Note: Thankfully said writer saw the humour in what I posted!) But some of the hate mail I've received today simply isn't fit to print.

So in honour of these PC ninnies who clearly had the last remnants of their senses of humour removed duirng their last colonic treatment, let me repost this video which I prepared earlier this year because of this:

And may I also offer them all the Joy-free Non-demominational Holiday Wishes that they appear to be seeking.

Note: No Holiday Joy Trees were harmed in the creation of this posting!

Zellers = Stupidity Plus

Apparently Zellers, owned by the Hudson's Bay Company, has imposed a ban on "Christmas". So I've decided to place a personal ban on both stores. Click on the link to go to the actual web page.

Update: Here's the response I just received from Zellers:

Thank you for your e-mail and taking the time to contact us. Just to
clarify, Holiday tree is a brand name for our Christmas trees. If you
read this week's flyer, we clearly emphasize Christmas as ?A special
time for making lasting memories while celebrating the birth of Jesus
Christ.? Merry Christmas!

Where Political Correctness Is Taking Us

Here's where the Politically Correct Champions of the Radical Left want to take us:

Christmas Dog Story

I have an amazing story to share with you all. It comes from a friend of mine named Lora who lives in Tacoma, Washington. I've heard such stories before but always chalked them up to Urban Legends. This story, I know, to be absolutely true!

Sheila, the Christmas Dog

Hello all,

Sorry for the long email, but I want to share a good story with you. :)

Most of you have met our cute little Australian Cattle Dog, Sheila. And many of you know our latest challenges with her; after we moved to our new place down by Titlow Beach last year, it has been IMPOSSIBLE to keep her in the yard. Short of putting up a 6 foot chain link fence around the entire half acre, we have tried almost everything. I was considering an "invisible fence", but a friend that had a similar problem with their dog recommended against it. She said the shock was worth getting thru for the freedom. In spite of all the associated training. That would definitely be Sheila.

She seems to have an otherworldly call to run. Therefore, she would break out of the fences and hedge and all the wonderful things David did to try to keep her in the yard. We have a very dense laurel hedge that lines our steep yard, which David lined with fencing, to try and make the hedge an impenetrable fortress. She would climb the fence, go straight thru the hedge, and down the hill. Off to run on the beach (and roll in whatever disgusting dead thing she could find)! She would always come home though, after a while.

Finally, I decided that she just didn't want to be with us, so I, sadly, put a "free dog" ad in the paper. I thought I'd find her a place in the country with acres to run on. I had dozens of calls from people in Graham with a 10 acre farm, etc. Perfect. So we decided on an elderly couple who had recently lost their beloved Australian Shepherd. Very much "dog" people, with several acres, fenced. Horses next door. I checked their place out, then they came to see her and fell in love, of course. She jumped right in their car and was ready to go.

A few days later I called them, she was happy, getting plenty of treats and love. They even let her sleep on the couch (a no-no at our house). She loved driving around town in the pickup with the dad, and running in the acreage.

A few days after that, I got another call. Apparently she had gotten spooked (she is a very spooky dog) when they were dragging a bag of rock salt out of the garage, and "took off like a shot". They jumped in their pickup and chased her. They'd get close and call her, she'd look back at them and then run even faster. They knew they were getting close to highway 512, so they stopped chasing, not wanting her to try and cross the highway. I offered to come down and help look, but they said they would just wait.

Now, about a week has passed, and the temperature has plunged well below freezing. I have been losing sleep over the thought of her out in this awful weather. But, yesterday morning I got a call from my dad, who lives in our old house (the first place Sheila lived with us). He told me they had a visitor. Have you guessed...yes...Sheila! She crossed at least two highways, and God only knows what else, to find us. Over 15 miles! She spent last night on her new bed, in front of the fireplace. Very happy.

Merry Christmas to you all...Love, Lora

Christmases From Long Ago

Today my mom and I went out to visit her old brother, my 83 year-old Uncle Hector. He has recently moved into a new place and is still in the process of sorting out long forgotten things that had been boxed up for some time.

Today he pulled out the following "scrapbooks:

This photo is a bit misleading though because, in fact, each is comprised of about twenty-five 8.5" x 11" cardboard panels, taped end to end. They were put together by another uncle, Martin, who sadly died in 1995. Uncle Martin was the most amazing "collector and organizer" who I have ever known. He collected all sorts of things, and each was diligently recorded and organized. Think "super librarian" and you'll come close to appreciating him.

Hector explained how the pieces of cardboard originated from when you had a shirt drycleaned back in the 1950's and 60's. Each January, Martin carefully glue all the Christmas cards onto the interconnected pieces of cardboard, carefully noting who sent each one. The result served both as a book or a long accordion-like banner that could be affixed to any wall on successive Christmas. Quite ingenious actually.

It was fascinating to go back over 40 years ago to see the cards & letters & photos from friends and relatives of my uncles and my grandmother. Quite fascinating indeed.

There were some interesting glimpses into those early years of the 1960's:

  • The postal codes, if they were even called that back then, consisted of one numeric digit. I think this probably referred to the nearest postal office.
  • All of the phone numbers were written differently. For example, rather than writing "277-1234", instead they'd write "BRowning 71234". The first two letters of the word - "BR" - represented the "27" on the phone keypad. You can read more about this here.
  • Most of the Xmas card were exceptionally small. I'm guessing this had to do with the cost of postage back then. There was probably a reduced rate for the tinier cards. Here's one, with a quarter beside it to show you its scale:
With Hector's permission, I carefully removed a few of the cards from old home and plan to mail them to the original senders.
