Old Photos

I decided to scan a bunch of old photos today. They're presented here in chronological order:

Late 1960's

The back side of what is now City Square. It was where I went to Kindergarten.
1975: My brother & I each earned $1.00 for one week's worth of chores. What could you get a kid to do these days for one buck?
1989: Underground in Lynn Lake, Manitoba, where I worked for a subsidiary of Sherritt-Gordon. Note the mustache experiment - a big failure!
1990: Here's the snow on the ground on Feb. 16th. A reminder to all of us that there may be more snow to come!
1993: With my parents at Dim Sum after my first visit to Hawaii.
1997: In Acapulco, Mexico with my girlfriend, her son, and other friends too.
My Mexican girlfriend, Laura, and her 7 year-old son, Danny.

Snowcouver's Mayor

With seemingly so few Vancouver City workers outside clearing snow or picking up garbage, one has to wonder precisely what Mayor Transparency has them doing?

Breaking News: 8 Snowmobilers Believed Dead in SE B.C.

A terrible tragedy has hit British Columbia near year's end. Eight snowmobilers are believed to be dead, after being buried in an avalanche. Only 3 among the group of 11 were able to climb out.

More available here and here. Click on the map to see a full-screen one with further details.

Video clips can be seen here and here.

I apologize for detracting from the primary concern at hand but I must draw your attention to an example of what appears to be a common mindset amongst CBC News regulars. To this story was added this comment:

You dismiss one moron in any group but look how many people "recommended" this particular comment! To it and others like it I wrote this:

Am I reading this right, several commenters on here are chastising those who have likely just died (and whose families may be reading this very story) and hundreds of CBC readers are praising such comments? You are ghouls beyond the sickest depravity imaginable.

Toronto Hit by Major Snow Storm

E-mail Sent to a Calgary Radio Station

Just read by Mike Blanchard on-air:

Hi Mike,

I'm listening to your show this afternoon from Vancouver. It might make your listeners pleased to know that since it has dropped just a few degrees below freezing and a few centimetres of snow has fallen that most Vancouverites are in a major state of stress! This weather has clearly interfered with their internal notion that they're really Southern Californians, just with a different passport!

Memories from Stanley Park

I helped out my friend this morning. He went to the ophthalmologist and had those special eye drops that force the pupil open wide. When that's done you're not supposed to drive. So I took his car for an hour and drove around Stanley Park. It was a crisp Spring day and here are some of the images I captured.

Vancouver Weather - Huh?!?

I'd love to hear how Al Gore would explain this:

Global warming protest frosted with snow

"A heavy snowfall blanketed a global warming protest outside the State House in Annapolis this morning, but it did not dampen the shouts of about 400 activists who urged lawmakers to pass the nation's toughest greenhouse gas control law."

Which word would be the more appropriate one for these folks to tattoo on their foreheads, "Naive" or "Moron" ?!?
