Letter Sent to the Halifax Chronical Herald

My Dear Atlantic Canadian Friends,

Though I've never been east of New Brunswick, it's long been my impression that all of you out there are amongst the kindest and most generous of anyone in our great country. But I've heard some troubling rumours of late, the general theme being that you wish to keep the revenue from your newly found resources (as you should) but don't want this wealth to be included in the equalization calculations. This surely can't be right? For it would be like one poor neighbour suddenly hitting the lottery jackpot and then expecting all his hard working middle-class neighbours to keep on giving him money, like they did when times were tough for him.

I'm thinking that these rumours are getting invented by those snobs in Toronto. They're always trying to mess with our heads out here. Please do correct them and say it ain't so.
