Socialists vs. Anarchists

Q: What's the difference between a socialist and an anarchist?

A: A society controlled by either will eventually (and usually rapidly) fall into a state of permanent disrepair. But to the bitter end a socialist will tell you that they're doing everything "for the people" whereas an anarchist will be honest and admit that they're doing it for their own selfish reasons!


P.S. Together they make up that portion of society we call "The Radical Left".

Renewed Clarity on Canadian Values

For years, Canadians have been trying to explain precisely what "Canadian values" are. Most explanations have ended up with 4 words: "We are not American." Succinct but not very useful.

More recently, great clarity on this term has come from an unexpected source: The Laibar Singh fiasco. The latest chapter from this media circus is that Harsha Walia and her little group of anarchists have been lying about Singh's medical situation. For some time, they had been saying that he had a brain aneurysm. We've now learned that he has a spinal infection, a very different ailment.

All of this has helped to provide great clarity on what some Canadian values are:

1. Not lying to the press and to the public.
2. Not taking the law into one's hands through mob rule.
3. Not crying "Racism" just because someone else demands that you respect the law.
   

I see some scary parallels between what's happening here and what has happened on a larger scale recently in Pakistan and Kenya. Harsha Walia is a thug, a gang leader. The law is reluctant to touch her because of her skin colour and gender but inside her beats the heart of a very vile person and clearly someone who is the antithesis of anyone with Canadian values.

Dispatch from Lawless Vancouver

This morning on CKNW, host Bill Good had one Parsha [didn't catch her last name] as a guest. She's a member of "No One Is Illegal", an activist organization that believes that anyone entering Canada should be allowed to stay here - without question.

She immediately started arguing with Bill and then started misquoting numbers, only later corrected by refugee claimant expert, Martin Collicott. But she had no respect even for him, so soaked in her own righteousness.

Here's what I wrote to Bill:

If more people start thinking like your guest, Parsha, then God help us all! She clearly recognizes no Canadian sovereignty and fundamentally believes that we should let everyone into the country who reaches our shores.

Throughout your discussion, I was reminded of Yann Martel's famous quote: "Canada is the greatest hotel on earth."

How did we ever get to this state of being that so many believe that being Canadian is simply an entitlement to get free health care and highly subsidized education? Our new national motto should be: "Ask not what I can do for my country, but tell me what my country can do for me!"

As a country we may have 140 years of wisdom but we're clearly naive ninnies about many things.


I did a little checking and discovered that their website is hosted by "Resist.ca", the same ISP that hosts that of the infamous "Anti-Poverty Committee". Reading through the main posted articles it became immediately clear that this is one of those dozen groups "against everything" that Walter Schultz frequently talks about. They are anti:

• Law & Order
• Development
  
• Capitalist
• Free Market
• Police
• American
• Progress
  

They're pretty much against everything that has given us the incredible prosperity, technology, freedom, and overall wealth that so many other countries do not enjoy. They claim to be helping the poor but should these naive little souls actually achieve what they're espousing, we would be living in a drab socialist society where everyone is poor.

Too Much Time On Their Hands?

David Cunningham's recent arrest has many in the media screaming 'victim' and crying foul. But let's not overlook the fact that several media outlets have gone out of their way to promote him as some kind of hero that clearly he is not. It wasn't too long ago that exactly the same media star status was given to the drug dealer, Marc Emery. As per the script, the next act in Cunningham's performance will be for him and his supporters to compare themselves in the same ranks as Mahatma Gandhi and Rosa Parks. Give me a break!

If a comparison is to be made, one need only look over at Britain. Many have suggested that the #1 reason for their home grown terrorism is because so many young Muslims are permanently unemployed [by choice], living off of the state, and simply have too much time on their hands. I'm NOT suggesting that Cunningham and his ilk are terrorists, although they seem to think they're playing the roles of freedom fighters on TV. What is certain is that they all have too much free time on their hands.

In our modern era of plenty where any twit with a video camera can become an instant celebrity via YouTube, it has become passe and uncool to get up every morning, go to work, and earn money to support one's family. Clearly, living a responsible and productive life is a challenge well beyond the capabilities of Vancouver's own Che Guevera wannabes.

2010 Olympics Countdown Clock

I came across this beautiful new monument on the north plaza of Vancouver's Art Gallery. It's quite impressive.

Sadly, this is one of the favoured hangout locations of the scoundrels associated with the so-called "Anti-Poverty Committee". I ironically wonder if we should start our own countdown until this monument is "mysteriously" vandalized by "unknown individuals". I can only hope that extremely hi-resolution cameras are trained on it.

What galls me the most about these thugs is the phony victim & oppressed talking points they constantly espouse. I doubt that any of them have spent any length of time amongst truly oppressed people in other countries around the world. Yet, in one of the most free countries in the world, with incredible opportunities for anyone who wants to lift a finger and work, these violent, mental midgets have declared war on everyone else in society.

Why Vancouverites Frequently Annoy Me

I'm a Vancouverite, born & raised. But I've lived in many other places too. Anyone reading my blog knows that I'm currently in Miami, Florida, finishing up the end of a 2-month working vacation here.

Every day I listen to CKNW online, read the Vancouver Sun, and watch the periodic newscast on the CTV website. Plus I read several blogs from back home, many of which there are links for on the right. So I have not lost track at all with what's going on back home.

I came across a posting in the Vancouver section of Craigslist where the author stated the following about the Vancouver Police Department: "Let me tell you this, they aren't rent a cops, but they are not professional, ethical ones either. What they are is incompetent, deceitful, corrupt and they are the largest criminal organization in this city. And,god help all the citizens of this city based on the fact that they are what we have as our police department."

If there's one thing [some] Vancouverites excel at, it's a self-imposed ignorance of the larger world around them and an Academy Award winning talent for playing the role of the proverbial victim. We have so much in Canada, especially in Vancouver, not the least of which are boundless opportunities to better our own lives. Yet people like this writer, anti-poverty "activists" (read "anarchists"), and environmental zealots would have the world believe that we're living in a totalitarian police state. Remember what I said about ignorance?

While I've been in Miami I've had the opportunity to talk with dozens upon dozens of people from all over the world, especially from many countries in the Caribbean and South America. Some specific conversations with Cuban & Haitian refugees and newcomers from Colombia & Argentina & Venezuela have provided me with extremely unpleasant first hand stories that will forever be imprinted in my brain.

You think you have it bad in Vancouver? Get a grip! Get a fracking grip!! You don't even know the meaning of the words: oppression, corruption, hunger, poverty, and hopelessness.

I'm flying home next week. Looking forward to it. But I know it won't be too long before the ignorant "permanent victims" of Vancouver vividly and constantly remind me of how incredibly selfish and ungrateful so many Canadians are.

The next time you see one of these folks outraged about this or that, just picture a spoiled little brat throwing a tantrum in public, complaining to his mother that he's not happy with the silver spoon in his mouth and wants a gold one instead!
