What's the Real Agenda of Laibar Singh's Supporters?

I received an e-mail from a friend today, asking me what I thought the real agenda of the Laibar Singh supporters is.

Real agenda of this group? I'm clear that their convictions are very straightforward: Keep Laibar Singh in Canada at all cost. And then if/when they win that battle, they'll do it for the next person and the next and the next. Harsha Walia isn't too much different than the despicable thugs that wrecked the premier's office a while ago. Both groups have convinced themselves that we're living on "stolen lands" and thus the rules of Canada have no real meaning.

The problem with anarchists is that they can never really stop. For when they do their heads - proverbial or actual - are cut off by those who they once called "comrade".

Today, CKNW's Bill Good let it be known that MANY people in the Indo-Canadian community have communicated to him that they're afraid to speak out publicly in support of sending Singh back to India for fear of being ostracized (or worse) by radical members of their own community.

Has Vancouver degraded to something akin to 1930's Chicago? Seems like it. Perhaps Walia has already adopted "Capone" as a middle name?!

Is This The New Canada of 2008?

Do you remember the famous story, "Lord of the Flies"? It tells the tale of a group of pre-teen schoolboys who devolve into a group of pack animals in a relatively short period of time.

I'm VERY disturbed with what I'm seeing in my country recently. First, we have this entire fiasco with Laibar Singh. I've stated on my blog numerous times that Harsha Walia and her little gang are nothing but a group of thugs; well-educated, well spoken I grant you, but thugs nonetheless. Today we learned that they have been lying about Singh having a brain aneurysm. But the law is scared of her because she's a minority woman. Political correctness trumps law & order and she knows it.

I cannot help but have this dream: None other than Wally Oppal comes to the next airport thugfest and personally slaps the cuffs on Walia. Oh how brilliant that would be. Sadly, it'll never happen.

The other incident I'm appalled about is the absolute intolerance for free speech by so many in the Muslim community toward Mark Steyn, Maclean's magagazine, and now even Rex Murphy. Don't believe me? Read the comments posted here from bottom to top. The spinning and misquotes by most everyone with a Muslim name is shocking.

Neither of these situations have anything to do with brown skin vs. white skin, nor do they have anything to do with Muslim or Sikh vs. Christian or Jewish. What they're all about is Canadian values vs. non-Canadian values. And those of us who value our democracy, free speech, and the rule of law absolutely NEED to keep on speaking out against these very destructive forces.

Renewed Clarity on Canadian Values

For years, Canadians have been trying to explain precisely what "Canadian values" are. Most explanations have ended up with 4 words: "We are not American." Succinct but not very useful.

More recently, great clarity on this term has come from an unexpected source: The Laibar Singh fiasco. The latest chapter from this media circus is that Harsha Walia and her little group of anarchists have been lying about Singh's medical situation. For some time, they had been saying that he had a brain aneurysm. We've now learned that he has a spinal infection, a very different ailment.

All of this has helped to provide great clarity on what some Canadian values are:

1. Not lying to the press and to the public.
2. Not taking the law into one's hands through mob rule.
3. Not crying "Racism" just because someone else demands that you respect the law.
   

I see some scary parallels between what's happening here and what has happened on a larger scale recently in Pakistan and Kenya. Harsha Walia is a thug, a gang leader. The law is reluctant to touch her because of her skin colour and gender but inside her beats the heart of a very vile person and clearly someone who is the antithesis of anyone with Canadian values.
