My Last Full Day in Hawaii

The weather wasn't perfect today and my health wasn't either but I got out & about and took some photos throughout the day.

This large and interesting statue sits at the Hawaii Convention Center.

I got down to Waikiki Beach with my camera & tripod to capture my last sunset in Hawaii.

I was actually trying to crop this photo but accidentally hit the wrong keys. I loved the end effect though and decided to show you this version instead!

A Walk Back from Chinatown

With just a few days left on my trip, I thought it was due time to partake in some Dim Sum! So I took a bus over to Chinatown. I looked at a few places I had recorded the names of but chose to go to Mei Sum, the same place I had gone last year. It was very good and comparable in taste to what one can get back in Vancouver.

My bus transfer was still good for several hours but it being a nice day, I decided to walk back to Waikiki - a distance of 4 miles.
Here's the famous Iolani Palace, home to some of Hawaii's royalty and fictional home to Steve McGarrett and his colleagues on Hawaii Five-O.
This is a look back at the downtown business sector.

I tried to give this stray cat a good scratch but he wasn't having any of it!
This is the capitol building of the 50th State of America.

These are the satellite dishes of KGMB, the local CBS affiliate.
I've never been inside the Convention Center but love the glass architecture.
IMHO this is the coolest new building in all of Honolulu. I don't know its name but on my next trip need to find a way to get up top to photograph it!

I *believe* this mural was painted by Robert Wyland.

A Potpourri of Images

My Chicago friend, Toni, and I headed back to Kailua to devour some more of those delicious banana pancakes at Boots & Kimo's.
After I dropped her off at her hotel I drove over to this empty lot close to the Kahala Resort. I was fascinated why these beautiful dolphin statues were all over the property. Maybe someone will see this one day and inform us all!

In the back end (near Macy's) of the Kahala Mall was this interesting monument. Even from a distance I immediately knew who it was!

If you're a big Jack Lord fan then you'll be interested to watch this.

Bill Reid's "The Spirit of Haida Gwaii"

Every time I visit YVR I always try to get a glimpse of Bill Reid's masterpiece. Last night was no exception. You can learn more about it here.

Trip Photos: Milwaukee, Wisconsin

During my recent trip to the U.S. Midwest we got to go up to Milwaukee for a few hours. I didn't capture nearly enough images but here are a few that I think you'll enjoy.

The Milwaukee Art Museum is an amazing structure designed by the famous architect, Santiago Calatrava.

I got lucky with this silhouette of Abraham Lincoln. The light was just right and I think it turned out perfectly.
The Pfister Hotel is a well restored Victorian masterpiece, originally opened in 1893. If you get a chance, go inside the lobby and look up at the magnificent ceiling.

This is a view inside the Karl Rausch restaurant in downtown Milwaukee. Great food and service both!

Note: This constitutes the end of the photos from my recent trip.

Trip Photos: Chicago - Out & About

Ever since my first visit to Chicago in February 1994, it has been my favourite city in the United States. Looking back over the past 14 years I've probably spent at least one year of my life there. I've taken thousands of photos there in times past but this was the first time with my new Canon G9 digital camera. I hope that these photos (and those in 5 subsequent posts) give you a small indication of why I love Chicago so much! Incidentally, to view hundreds of older ones I've posted just click here.

These are two of my favourite ladies: my mom's in the center and my 87 year old friend, Toni, is on the left. We were enjoying a Polish buffet up on Milwaukee Avenue.
