The CDCC vs. the CDC

The Province had a scathing editorial about Carole James' recent "policy" regarding the twinning of the Port Mann bridge. This woman has a real talent for digging herself into a hole and then digging it even deeper. The fact that such holes haven't yet collapsed around her yet should be studied by civil engineering students around the world.

I'll give James the benefit of the doubt that she's a principled person (though it's not clear what principles she holds from week to week) but she's either a very naive politician or was never very good at math.

Does her new policy appeal to anyone? Absolutely. They realistically constitute less than 5% of the electorate and are affectionately known as the Commercial Drive Cappuccino Crowd - or "CDCC" for short. One must be sure not to get our CDCC confused with the more well known CDC, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

The latter group is concerned with protecting us all from harmful diseases. Our local one views 'us' as the disease, and wants to do everything they can to socially re-engineer the lifestyles of anyone who lives on the "wrong" side of the Fraser River. I can already envision the perfect political cartoon: James' face on the body of King Kong, climbing the north span of the Port Mann bridge and giving the finger to all the poor commuters coming down the hill from Surrey!

Math will matter a great deal to Ms. James come the next election. All of her MLAs in Surrey and the Fraser Valley are sure to be wiped out by an angry electorate who detest being told that they can't have the same basic transportation infrastructure as the people of Vancouver.

Walter Schulz brilliantly pulls apart James' twisted views here.
