Hi Robert,
Great letter. Just a thought.....
The deaths of Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan is hard for all of us. Canadians are doing, and we should be doing, our fair share in the difficult job of soldiering in Afghanistan.
However when the time comes to rotate out of the difficult Kandahar region, we should allow some of the other 36 NATO partners do some of the heavy lifing in the south. 66 dead Canadian soldiers out of a troop strength of 1,900 is far too high a price for Canadians to pay. By the time our commitment is completed, we might have close to 100 dead soldiers.
Hey, I think we Canadians have done our fair share of dying in Afghanistan?
Well Robert, you know I think the same as you. Lots of people really are like sheep, stupidly following whoever leads. One of my co-workers, who's very intelligent, thinks like us. I used to take him for a leftist, we got talking and he's a very logical person and quite conservative, we agree on most things! Another co-worker is totally sold on the liberalist thinking, views me with some disgust and is dismissive when I voice my views, she wouldn't even look at a statement from a scientist about global warming that I printed out for her. Bahhh
I agree the other NATO countries need to pull their weight more.
I agree with both of you. And it sounds like Stephen Harper has reached his limit as well of allowing other NATO countries to avoid their responsibilities. I just hope that when Canada's turn is over, that it's not just the U.S. and Britain who rotate in.
