A Primer for Americans on the NDP's Jack Layton

The name "Jack Layton" will be appearing in headlines across America over the next few news cycles. He's going to be appearing on behalf of the Democrat Party as an avid proponent of the Canadian Health Care system.

Do listen to what he says but also be aware of the following:

  • He belongs to a party that is in 4th place in terms of seats.
  • 4 out of 5 Canadians consistently reject the socialist class warfare message of Layton.
  • You'll learn in this interview (beginning @ 7:00) that not all is rosy here in Canada.
  • His nickname is "The Video Professor" due to his striking resemblance with John W. Scherer.
So, before you take him too seriously, please realize that most Canadians don't either.

Charles Adler's Dear Jack Letter

Charles Adler succinctly spoke what many Canadians have been thinking about Jack Layton for a long time now. You can listen to it here (@ 7:00) or read it here.

Jack Layton: How to Gain Power Without Ever Earning It

Full transcript from Stephen Taylor here.

So now we clearly know what the NDP/Liberal/Block Cabal de Trois has had planned all along. Do they have the legal right to form a coalition? Absolutely.

Should the Governor General let them take power in this way, without putting it to a vote of Canadians? Absolutely Not! As I've stated repeatedly before, there is no similar precedent, not even one, in Canada's 141 year history. Never before has control of the government been handed over this way if the sitting Prime Minister demands an election be held instead.

So let an election indeed be held with:
  • Stephane Dion or Bob Rae or Michael Ignatieff as PM
  • Jack Layton as Finance Minister
  • Gilles Duceppe as ?????
Let the People of Canada decide if this is what they want. If my fellow citizens choose to go this path then I will fully accept their decision.

The Cabal's Secret Talks

CTV is reporting that Jack Layton of the NDP has been in secret talks with the Bloc Quebecois long before this past week. Please read the story carefully.

Never before in Canada's history has an immediate overthrow of a democratically elected government ever been attempted. This may very well be "legal" according to the letter of the law but in no way, shape, or form is it in the spirit of democratic principles, tradition, or precedent.

Let's not pull punches: Jack Layton is completely ignoring the will of the Canadian people and instead using political tricks to gain power. If he succeeds, the people of this nation must punish him & the NDP badly, very badly at the voting booth the next time we're given the opportunity.

The Strange Marriage of the NDP with Islamic Radicals

This article by Barbara Kay should be a must read for all Canadian voters. One of the key paragraphs is this one:

It soon became apparent that the particular political focus of all three of the speakers is the NDP, which has shamelessly courted and integrated into its inner circles Islamist Muslims with views that are antithetical and even dangerous to the continued health of Canadian values. Fatah has watched in frustration as Islamists in the NDP pursue a relentless campaign to instill a sense of victimhood in Muslim youth.

Preaching victimhood has ALWAYS been my major problem with the NDP and other like-minded socialist parties. The danger here is that they are actually helping to push a visible minority in Canada further to the fringes. Cynics say this is to achieve more power via the voting booth. I tend to think it's just blind ignorance on the part of those in the NDP.

And Back in Canada . . .

I was just reading this analysis of the English language debate that occurred in Canada tonight when I came across one comment that said that the NDP's Jack Layton should go back to his Video Professor job. The resemblance is startling:

Do we know for a fact that Taliban Jack and the Video Professor have ever been seen in the same place at the same time?!?

Canadian Federal Election Called

We interrupt our regular scheduled programming to report on another election campaign that has just started in that far off country of Canada. Unlike the American election campaign that seems to have been going on for 2 years, ours will be just 5 weeks long, with the vote held on October 14th.

The only discussion I could find on it this morning was on CBC Radio 1. Of course, they had their usual version of a fair & balanced panel: Left, Further Left, and Extreme Left. It would be fair to surmise that not one of the panelists has ever voted for the Conservatives in their entire life. The discussion mostly centered around two issues:

  1. Should the election have been called? (aka Is Stephen Harper wasting everyone's money?)

  2. Will the environment be at the forefront of the election campaign?
#1 would never have been asked of a Liberal prime minister. Proof positive is when Jean Chretien called an election after just 3.5 years into his mandate (June 6th, 1997).

#2 will likely be an election issue, only because Stephane Dion has made it so. His Green Shift policy is nothing more than a massive tax grab at Western Canadians. How anyone in the West could vote for such a thing is beyond me!

Upon dissolution of the current Parliament, here's the breakdown of seats:
  • 127 - Conservative
  • 95 - Liberal
  • 48 - Bloc Quebecois
  • 30 - NDP
  • 3 - Independent
  • 1 - Green
  • 4 - Vacant
Total Seats: 308

So to achieve a majority, Stephen Harper's Conservatives need 155 members elected. Can they achieve this? It'll be tough. The keys to success will be these:
  • Make Westerners aware of just how incredibly punitive the Liberal's Green Shift plan will be to their bank accounts.
  • Work at bringing Quebeckers back into the fold of Canada, hoping they'll realize how pointless their vote for the Bloc Quebecois is.
  • Hope that more than a few voters in the '416' Toronto region realize that they don't have to vote Liberal to remain in Canada.
A few final thoughts:
  1. The single Green member is a controversial figure in West Vancouver named Blair Wilson. The Liberals booted him out (wisely) and so he made the desperate move to become Canada's first Green Party member. Prediction: He will not win and will lose badly.
  2. The NDP's Jack Layton announced that he is running to become Prime Minister this time round. God Bless his optimistic attitude! Prediction: The NDP's only hope is for a complete meltdown of the Liberal campaign. With Dion, anything is possible, but I don't believe the NDP can achieve any more than 50 seats.
  3. Lorne Mayencourt, previously a provincial Liberal MLA, is running for the Conservatives in my riding of Vancouver Centre. He is trying to unseat the most useless MP in the history of Canada aka Hedy Fry. But she has traditionally had a stranglehold on the large gay vote in the riding. Mayencourt himself is gay, so perhaps he'll be able to achieve electoral success just like he has done successfully at the provincial level.
  4. It'll be most interesting to see if the popularity of Sarah Palin amongst Americans has any side-effect to help the Conservatives here in Canada. Melanie Phillips, a prominent writer in Britain, has suggested that Palin's success in the U.S. may very well help the Conservatives in the UK. Interesting times!
