Pottery Barn for Kids

The rest of the economy may be tanking but there's clearly no shortage of overindulged kids whose parents have no shortage of disposable income to spend on them. How do I know this? Because the construction of the "Pottery Barn for Kids" on South Granville is finally complete and is now being stocked by a small army of smiling ladies.

Broadway & Cambie

The whole area around Cambie & Broadway in Vancouver is getting a dramatic facelift. The RAV line to the airport, passing underneath here, is almost complete. They're even working on Sundays to hurry up its completion.

London Drugs moved from its location a block West to its new one right near Cambie. As I spent 21 of my first 22 years in this neighbourhood [1965 - 1987] I'm more than a little familiar with all the changes in this part of the city.

Metal Chickens

Nothing more to be said. Metal chickens kind of speak for themselves, don't they?!

Trip Photos: On I-35 from San Antonio to Dallas

50 miles northeast of San Antonio we came upon the Prime Outlets Mall near San Marcos. I couldn't care less and would have passed by it at high speed but it proved to pretty much be mecca to someone else in the car! The mall's claim to fame is to be rated as "The 3rd Best Place to Shop in the World". I will admit that it was pretty darn big!

I spent much of my time enjoying a coffee in the shade at the Starbucks there. Note the Texas star above the sign.
A bit further on we stopped for gas.
I captured this photo to give an indication of the rolling countryside of southern Texas.
And I finally found the "tough looking truck" with a Texas license plate that I had been searching for since our trip began!
There were dozens of these large bugs all over the outside wall of the gas station.

Wildly Increased Food Prices!

I was down at Granville Island, buying a number of things for a party I'm having tomorrow. At one place I bought 4 salads and a container of olives. No huge quantities. I handed the woman my credit card and then she casually said, "That'll be $101.05."

It didn't register for a few seconds but then hit me with a full-force "Huh?!" I walked over to her, now at the cash register, an politely asked her to itemize the prices for me.

When she did so, she arrived at a different total: $38.70. Quite a bit different! It was an innocent mistake though and she was incredibly cute so I was just content to get everything resolved amicably.

Honolulu Flea Market

Everyone who knows me knows that I H-A-T-E shopping. I think it's a completely useless activity, pointless to the extreme. But I also realize that the fairer sex seems to love it. So once in a while I will make an exception. But I've now reached a new low. I actually agreed to pay $1.00 to go shopping with my Mom at the "famous" flea market.

As I expected, it was the same old junk that's sold by every other vendor on every 2nd street in Waikiki. Here are my photos that tell the tale.

South Granville Will Never Be The Same!

The first Williams-Sonoma store in Vancouver opened in my very own neighbourhood of South Granville no less. Even with the terrible weather outside, the store was absolutely packed all day!

Changes Afoot for Vancouver's Oakridge Mall

Fellow blogger, Walter Schulz, has just posted a fascinating item about planned changes for Oakridge Mall, at 41st & Cambie in Vancouver. I posted a long comment about my fond memories about the old mall, so I won't repeat it in its entirety here but here are some keywords: Woodward's, Kresgie's, malt ice-cream, Dogwood Florist.
