Hanging New Lights

There'll be night lawn bowling in Vancouver this summer!

Pottery Barn for Kids

The rest of the economy may be tanking but there's clearly no shortage of overindulged kids whose parents have no shortage of disposable income to spend on them. How do I know this? Because the construction of the "Pottery Barn for Kids" on South Granville is finally complete and is now being stocked by a small army of smiling ladies.

The Kingswood

Nice weather today. I took my uncle's dog for a walk and we went past The Kingswood, one of Vancouver's finest buildings.

Old Accident

This accident did NOT just happen due to the weather! I've been sorting through all the old photos I've taken in Vancouver. This one happened in July 2005 at the corner of 12th & Granville. I do not know what was the fate of the driver and passengers.

Adventures in Time-Lapse Photography

I've owned my Canon G9 camera for almost a year but only now discovered its time-lapse capability - Duhh!

I don't know yet know any practical application to this feature, other than perhaps watching a flower or a building grow, but it does offer a neat effect nonetheless!

Fall Colours in the Afternoon

On a sunny day, it really is quite amazing around here in the Fall. Here are a few shots looking south on Granville Street toward 16th Avenue.

Metal Chickens

Nothing more to be said. Metal chickens kind of speak for themselves, don't they?!

Looking for Alice?

Might this be the proverbial rabbit hole?

South Granville Landmarks Soon To Disappear

Remember the old Pretenders song, My City Was Gone? That's what my neighbourhood of South Granville has felt like for some time. The latest stores to go are these, the butcher, the baker, and grocery store. Sadness.

Vancouver Courier Murals

I came across these beautiful murals, painted on the outside of the Vancouver Courier building at 6th & Fir.

Chhhhanges in South Granville

Here are a few photos of the 1500 Block of West 12th Avenue. They city decided to remove the trees on the north side of the street but will be replanting some smaller ones in the fall.

Here's a memory from a few years ago of the same block:

Potpourri of New Photos

I walked down to Granville Island to replenish my empty fridge and caught some images along the way.

I thought these flowers were absolutely amazing, almost as if the edges of them were painted.

Vancouver History: The Aristocratic Restaurant

The southwest corner of Granville & Broadway was long occupied by the Aristocratic Restaurant.
Several years ago the entire retail block was knocked down. In place of the restaurant was put the front entrance to Chapters. I'm not a big fan of this bookstore but I give them credit for commemorating a bit of the area's history with this sign:
Curiously enough, revealed that there is an Aristocratic Restaurant at 1465 West Broadway, about 1/2 block east. I've never noticed it and will have to go check it out!

South Granville Will Never Be The Same!

The first Williams-Sonoma store in Vancouver opened in my very own neighbourhood of South Granville no less. Even with the terrible weather outside, the store was absolutely packed all day!

Some Beautiful Old Cars

South Granville's retail district was celebrating its 100th Anniversary today. As part of this, some old cars were parked on the street. Here are a few photos of them:
