Overwhelming Sadness over the Aneez & Chanelle Tragedy

I stopped by the impromptu shrine on the north side of 4th Avenue, underneath the Granville Street Bridge. It's a small indication of the enormous number of people who loved Aneez & Chanelle, two incredibly special, contributing human beings.

My friend, his wife, his father, and his aunt attended the funeral for Aneez yesterday. The service was held at the Ismaili Jamatkhana in Burnaby. My friend shared with me that it was overflowing with family members, friends, and colleagues. The sadness was simply overwhelming.

Friend's Family Member Killed

This recent hit & run incident has really hit home because one of the two innocent victims is the cousin of a close friend of mine. Dr. Aneez Mohamed and his fiancée Chanelle Morgan were struck down by a moronic 18 year-old drunk driver. And this punk had the audacity to flee the scene but was hunted down by a police dog. Sadly, just watch in the months & years ahead as his lawyer tries to make him out to be the victim.

Dr. Mohamed was a member of the Ismaili faith, who have suffered more than their share of driving fatalities in recent years. You might recall a few years ago that logs fell off of a truck on the Upper Levels Highway in West Vancouver, killing a mother and her daughter. They were also Ismailis. My heart goes out to this close knit group in Metro Vancouver.

Old Accident

This accident did NOT just happen due to the weather! I've been sorting through all the old photos I've taken in Vancouver. This one happened in July 2005 at the corner of 12th & Granville. I do not know what was the fate of the driver and passengers.

Witness to a Crime!

Okay, not a major crime but a crime nonetheless!

The burgundy Honda you see here tried to pull into the parking space but side-swiped the driver's side front bumper. She then backed up and pulled in a second time.

Here she is walking to the rear of her car.
She completely ignored the other car and went to take a quick look at what she had done to the rear passenger door of her own.
I thought for sure that she'd then go leave a note on the other car.
But no, she simply went to put money in the parking meter and then illegally jaywalked across the middle of Broadway. A stellar citizen!
Seeing this, I ran outside and photographed both cars, plus close-ups of their license plates (not shown).
I couldn't tell whether the other car was noticeably damaged or not but the hi-resolution version of this photo shows it very clearly.
When the owner came out I explained to him what occurred and gave him my card in case the other driver disputes that she hit him.

Smash From the Past!

I received a call out of the blue today from a lawyer about this car accident that occurred nearly 3 years ago. As I often do, I had my camera with me and captured these scenes. He was absolutely blown away that I was able to provide him with photos. Welcome to the Brave New Digital World!

She Might Not Know How to Drive But at Least She Can Operate Her Cel Phone!

Even though the trial of the decade is ongoing in Vancouver, the rest of the city continues on with its own daily routines. Scenes like this are all too typical in this city.

Just Another Typical Driving Day in Miami

It wasn't even 9am and I heard a large bang outside. Sure enough, someone was driving too fast or too carelessly or likely both. In most cities, one needs to look both ways before crossing a street. In Miami, you need to look left, right, backward, forward, and then RUN across the street!

You may be curious to know how I obtained this photo. It was about 2 blocks away, much too far for my little camera's zoom lense. So I put the camera into Macro mode and placed the lens up against one of the eyepieces of a pair of binoculars. It took a little fidgeting but I finally captured the photo you see here.
