Multiple Gems of Wisdom from Dennis Prager

I'm a relative newcomer to Dennis Prager but the more I listen to him, the more I see the great wisdom of this man. Here are some audio clips from his show:

Heavy Lifting

A local law firm donated 18 beautiful 19" monitors to BC Digital Divide. Danny & I picked up a dozen of them today. A lot of work, but well worth it!

Khurrum Awan: Was he lying in court or on the radio?

Khurrum Awan is one "interesting" guy. He appears to have a very flexible idea about the word "truth" and changes his statements depending on the audience he's talking to. Here's an example:

From the June 3rd 2:00pm entry on Andrew Coyne's realtime blog:

"Now Porter returns to the attack. “When did you first publicly admit that you asked for money for a donation” at the Maclean’s meeting? (The money, to be clear, was not to go to the students, but to a race relations foundation for the promotion of religious tolerance.) When was it? Porter supplies the answer: At a press conference on April 30 of this year, when Joe Brean of the National Post asked him about it. At that time, the group’s lawyer, Joseph, said it was only “a nominal” amount.

Awan now says they were considering asking for $10,000, but never got around to naming a figure. He doesn’t think this could be characterized as a “substantial” sum, given the magazine’s resources. He doesn’t know Maclean’s."

Now listen to Awan on Jon McComb's show on CKNW. Move the slider to this time: 9:15 In it we "learn" from Awan that he "speaks for tens of thousands of Muslims in B.C.", that Jon McComb is a racist, and that he and his colleagues never requested any money from Maclean's.

Beautiful! Regarding the money, he must have been lying at one of these two venues. Which was it?

I'd now like to draw your attention to this York University newspaper article about Awan entitled "Learning about law to change Canada". Considering his track record, that title alone is chilling. Here's a quote from him in the article:

"The way to overcome these stereotypes and problems is to let your work speak for itself. I also want to do good work for all Canadians and simply be a good and ethical lawyer who rises to the top with honesty and professionalism. If you work hard enough, you can overcome any obstacle. I also think it’s important to actively engage in broader issues that concern the Canadian society as a whole." (the emphasis is mine)

The Warman Chronicles

Richard Warman, past employee of the Canadian Human Rights Commission and serial litigant under human rights legislation in our country, has launched new lawsuits against 5 Canadian bloggers. Not only does he want them forever silenced, he also wants them to pay him money for alleged harm their words have caused him.

You can read more about this here and here and here.

Whatever your political stripe, if you are Canadian and don't find this extremely scary then you & I are living on different planets. Each one of these defendants, with the possible exception of Jonathan Kay at the National Post, will have to use their own money to defend themselves. And the cost to Warman? Absolutely nothing. I will be watching developments on this file with extreme attention.

Richard Warman has been described by Mark Steyn as "the most sensitive man in Canada". You can read more about Warman here.

More on Canada's Kangaroo Courts

Mark Steyn provides a stinging condemnation of Canada's many human rights commissions. In it he features one Richard Warman, an Ottawa lawyer who appears to have been a plaintiff of the Canadian Human Rights Commission more than any other person on earth.

As Steyn says, "Mr. Warman has been a plaintiff on every single Section XIII case before the federal "human rights" star chamber since 2002 — and he's won every one. That would suggest that no man in any free society anywhere on the planet has been so comprehensively deprived of his human rights. Well, no. Mr. Warman doesn't have to demonstrate that he's been deprived of his human rights, only that it's "likely" (i.e. "highly un-") that someone somewhere will be deprived of some right sometime. Who is Richard Warman? What's his story? Well, he's a former employee of the Canadian Human Rights Commission: an investigator. Same as Shirlene McGovern."

Most interesting. Most frightening. Is this the Canada that Pierre Trudeau envisioned?

A Little Political Incorrectness

I deeply appreciate the National Post recently publishing assorted excerpts from Mark Steyn's new book, "America Alone". Though many Canadians will undoubtedly close their minds to what he has to say, it's important that they listen. For history has repeatedly shown us that any nation that is not willing to stand up and defend its values will most surely lose them.

There's an old joke: "How do you tell an American from a Canadian? Answer: The Canadian apologizes when HIS own foot is stepped on." Perhaps it's long overdue for us to stop apologizing for our traditions, our beliefs, and our values? Note to the new Liberal leader: You don't need a focus group to answer this question.

These are very serious times for the world, possibly similar in nature to what our ancestors faced 70 years ago. 1936 - 39 wasn't a very long period of time but look at how quickly things changed in those 3 years. Today though, the rampant political correctness that has successfully wrestled free speech to the ground has made it nearly impossible for any serious debate (on any issue) to occur.

It seems nowadays that the intelligence and clarity of arguments don't matter so much as who uttered them. In some sort of guilt ridden attempt to rectify the wrongs of the past, more credence is given to:

  1. Non-males
  2. Non-Caucasians
  3. Non-heterosexuals
  4. Non-Christians
  5. Non-English speakers
In fact, the more hyphenated descriptors you can add before "Canadian", the better the chance you have of getting anything and everything you want!

Thus, for example, if you don't want Christmas carols sung at your kid's school, don't go directly to the principal. No, instead just find a transgendered, homosexual, atheist, welfare supported guardian of one of the other kids at the school; preferably one who only speaks some rare language found in Africa or Asia or Nunavut. Through their interpreter, encourage them to make liberal use of the following words at a press conference arranged by you: racist, sexist, prejudice, religious insensitivity, and of course the new catch-all get-whatever-you-want phrase "human rights violation".

The national media will be all over the story like seals offered a bucketful of fish. Within 24 hours a school board media relations person will be cowering on TV, apologizing profusely for the thoughtless atrocities of past Christmas carols at all schools throughout your community. They will mention that grief counselors had been sent to the school to help the children cope and that all staff and students will start sensitivity training after the Christmas ... errr Holiday Season.

In the past few decades many grievous wrongs of the past have been corrected. And the proverbial pendulum has swung to the center in terms of equality for all. In fact, one could well argue that it has swung beyond the center when it comes to affirmative action programs that deliberately exclude members of majority groups. In cities like mine we have countless groups of immigrants who generally get along in a harmonious way. That's wonderful and I support this "New Canada" wholeheartedly

But now what we're seeing is the drip-drip-drip of a small number of agenda-driven people who are deliberately trying to push the changes even further. Some are self-imposed permanent victims, others are just selfish and greedy. They would love nothing more than to see all Canadian traditions removed from our lives and replaced by some sort of faceless, humourless, soulless socialist society. Their weapons of choice are easy to spot: unprincipled politicians & judicial bodies and the all-to-willing media looking for the next controversy.

I sincerely believe that it's up to the likes of you & me to speak out against them lest we wake up one day in a country that is completely unrecognizable from that which exists today.
