Charles Krauthammer's Take on Obama’s Plan for the Auto Industry
Obama owns GM, and I don't know about you, Bret, but I'm deeply reassured that the largest company in America is owned by a guy with the vast private sector experience of Barack Obama.
His speech today, as always, was eloquent, and it appeared clear, but it really is not. It's not exactly clear what he is aiming at.
As I understand it, I think, though, the plan here is to send GM into Chapter 11, either a real Chapter 11 or a disguised one in 60 days, and to send Chrysler over to Fiat or the wolves, whichever will take it.
With GM, the reason that I suspect it is going to end up in Chapter 11 is because he would not have offered the guarantee on warranties otherwise. The reason people are worried about a Chapter 11 is, that the argument is if that happens, people will not have confidence in the company, and the sales will dissolve.
But you have got to ask yourself as a constitutional aside where in Articles II of the constitution is the president allowed to unilaterally guarantee auto warranties? I mean, tomorrow it will end up — we started with bank deposits, money markets, auto warranties, and tomorrow it's toasters.
But if you have Democrats in power, nobody asks about the constitutional questions.

Charles Krauthammer & George Jonas on the Never-ending War
Charles Krauthammer has just written a new column, as has George Jonas. Both are well worth a read. From the former comes this snippet:
Late Saturday, thousands of Gazans received Arabic-language cell-phone messages from the Israeli military, urging them to leave homes where militants might have stashed weapons.
-- Associated Press, Dec. 27
Israel is so scrupulous about civilian life that, risking the element of surprise, it contacts enemy noncombatants in advance to warn them of approaching danger. Hamas, which started this conflict with unrelenting rocket and mortar attacks on unarmed Israelis -- 6,464 launched from Gaza in the past three years -- deliberately places its weapons in and near the homes of its own people.
For Hamas, the only thing more prized than dead Jews are dead Palestinians. The religion of Jew-murder and self-martyrdom is ubiquitous.

Hatin' Palin
Here's an important article to pass onto all those you know who H-A-T-E Sarah Palin. I know plenty of them and am embarrassed for each & every one of them.
Charles Krauthammer, besides being a gifted writer, feels that these haters are actually experiencing a phenomenon of self-loathing:
What's remarkable about the reaction to Palin is not only the unfavorable. It's the loathing, the absolute hatred that you hear, especially from intellectuals, feminists, sort of east coast, west coast, pointy headed [elites]. ... In Palin's case, I think what adds to it is her decision at her age with four other children to have a down syndrome child. This, too, as Joseph Epstein wrote, in feminist circles if abortion is not about this, what's it about?
And they look at her as sort of a back room — a backwater hick, who, for religious reasons, went ahead and had a child that they would never have.
Underneath it, I think, deep underneath it, I think it's a self-loathing on the part of these feminists, knowing that what she did is virtuous and a generous act that they would have never have undertaken. And her having undertaken it is an affront to them, a silent rebuke.

Who's Playing The Race Card?
Just after publishing my last posting, I came across this new editorial by the Washington Post's Charles Krauthammer. Remember what I said about Barack Obama being a true politician and about the mainstream media not doing their jobs?! Krauthammer provides evidence ... over & over & over again.

Ooops, Looks like "The Gaffe" Wasn't Palin's!
Looks like Palin wasn't the one who made the gaffe in the recent interview with Charlie Gibson. It was actually HIM and the Washington Post's Charles Krauthammer explains why.
Be sure to take a look at the comments on Krauthammer's article. The new line of attack from those with PDS (Palin Derangement Syndrome) is that whenever she answers a question succinctly, "it must be a prepared answer". I recall that at the Saddleback forum, McCain was accused of "cheating" in a similar way. If a student takes a math test and gets 95%, is your first inclination to condemn him for "being prepared"?
The further we get into this election, do you get the sense that Obama's supporters are like those parents of a young child who interject themselves far too much into the kid's sporting activities? In the deepest recesses of their minds they know he's only a mediocre athlete but keep talking to the coach as if he's a superstar. "Why don't you give Barry more playing time?", they ask, "he's the real star on the team. Why can't you see that? It's SO obvious!"
On a related note, let me say something that I assure you is with the greatest sincerity. In order for a good democracy to function there must be at least two strong opposing parties. In America, where there are really only two major political parties, if one is hamstrung or enfeebled in some way then democracy suffers. Period.
It is becoming crystal clear that the Mainstream Media and their comrades in the Extreme Left Blogosophere are losing this election for Barack Obama. Not just by a little, but by a lot. An awful lot. Some Democrats are speaking out about this now but the major players in the media seem to be too arrogant to hear what is truly sage advice.
There are just 53 days left until election day. If things continue as-is then not only will no important issues get debated, but Journalism, which was once an important institution in the election process will continue to be discredited. And rightly so with their current behaviour.
I don't support Barack Obama primarily because of his proposed economic policies. His rhetoric is just too spookily similar to that which I've heard all my life from [far-left socialist] NDP leaders in Canada and the provinces of British Columbia and Ontario. I've lived through NDP regimes in both of these provinces and the economy was ruined by both of them. That's why I think Obama is a poor choice. But I do believe that Americans deserve to have McCain and Obama seriously debate real issues and then from that the people can decide. Too bad the media disagrees.
