A Rockin' Night in White Rock!

Saturday Night I attended a rock & roll concert in White Rock. The band is called "Krunch" and play all over the Lower Mainland. Here's the line-up:

• Lead vocals: Jamie

• Rhythm guitar: John
• Bass guitar: George
• Drums: Steve
  

They were playing to help send a young kids hockey team called the Vancouver Selects to a tournament in Boston, Massachusetts. There was also a silent and live auction to help with the same cause. Great fun had by all!

Who Is Steve Winwood?

That RIDICULOUS question was asked of me today by someone who will remain anonymous! Steve Winwood is my favourite musician of all time and an absolute genius IMHO. Here are some videos that Fiona (ooops, I was going to keep her name anonymous) might recognize:




Quick notes:

• The second song is my #1 favourite song. The first time I heard it was the very first time I drove on my own. My Dad helped me buy a 67 Buick (in 1980) and had a cheap Korean stereo installed in it. I heard "While You See A Chance" and absolutely loved it. I also heard "Morning Train" by Sheena Easton but it never stuck.
• The third song, Gimme Some Lovin', Winwood wrote and released in 1966, when he was just 18 years old.
  

It's Only Rock 'n Roll But I Like It

In case you're not aware, the title is the name of a song from the Rolling Stones in 1974. I think it's most apropos for the event I attended last night at the Stanley Park Rowing Club. A long time friend of mine, Steve, though now a bank executive, has kept his musical talents sharp and has put together a band of which are some people he played with 20+ years ago!

I'm not a "costume kind-of-guy" so my get-up consisted of putting on my 24-year old red Engineering jacket! And yes, it still fits ... sort of! :-) I helped out Steve's band by collecting tickets at the door and photographing and videoing the event. All attendees seemed to have lots & lots of fun!!
