Driving Journey: Day 3: Grants Pass

The drive from Crater Lake down to Grants Pass is about 100 miles but it's mostly on secondary 2-lane highways so it takes a few hours. Plus, much of the scenery is quite grand and one has no inclination to rush it.
In Grants Pass I only stopped to get an iced coffee at McDonald's and to gas up the car. It was appreciably warmer here than where I had been, probably because of the much lower elevation.

There's no major road heading right out to the Oregon Coast so I headed SW on Hwy 199, which actually dips into California.

Movie Recommendation: One Week

One Week is about living and dying. It's also about freedom out on the open road. And did I mention, it's also about Canada!

It follows a man on a motorcycle, driving from Toronto to Vancouver Island. I've driven much of this route, in one form or another, several times so it was wonderful to see many familiar scenes once again.

4-stars, highly recommended! Do rent it if you get a chance.

Trip Photos: Lockhart, Texas

Our friend, Kristi, had a hankering for more BBQ so on her last day, after visiting the missions, we headed up to Lockhart aka "The BBQ Capital of Texas".

We singled in on Smitty's Market.

These endless stacks of wood are used to fuel the BBQ inside.
As soon as I saw this oven, I knew we were in for a treat!

And sure enough, we were not disappointed!! Everything was absolutely DELICIOUS!!!

My mom only ate a little, Kristi ate more, but I ate the most of all. Yum x 1,000!!!
After the big meal we staggered outside and went to investigate this gingerbread like castle. It turned out to be the Caldwell County Courthouse which had so clearly been impeccably restored.

Who could resist not taking a photo of this chopper!

Another Perfect Day for Photography

These photos are proof for my buddy, Walter, that as long as you have a decent camera, you can just set the self-timer, toss it up in the air, and what results is guaranteed to be a great photo! :-)

This photo is deceiving. The white flowers in the foreground are actually just over 1cm in diameter.

Hangin' Out with a 10 Year Old

A friend of mine was in town, along with her mom and her 10 year-old son. I had the opportunity to hang out with her young one, someone I've known since he was just two. So what to do? We strolled down to Granville Island, toured around a little, bought some lego, assembled it, and ate cookies. A perfect morning!

Back in Vancouver!

Hello All! I've been completely exhausted ever since returning home. But slowly I'm getting my sleep patterns back in sync and rediscovering my hometown again. Here are some recent photos:

Fish, fish, fish!

Accidentally ran into Jennifer Burke (nee Mather), host of Living in Vancouver.

Wait, am I in Vancouver or still in Miami?!?

I just had to get my Dim Sum fix, after 2 months away from Vancouver!!

Make your own jokes!

I saw all kinds of eccentric things in Miami but was pleasantly surprised to see that Vancouverites are trying hard in this regard too!
