Cambie Street Stroll

Today's beautiful weather gave me the perfect opportunity to walk downtown. I chose to go down Cambie Street.

This is a shot from just above Broadway, looking north.
Here you see the remnants of the Canada Line construction. The building across the street will be the Broadway station.
Looking south towards 12th Avenue, you can see a potpourri of construction equipment.
I absolutely LOVE old cars. Here are 3 of many that were cruising down Cambie. Absolutely delightful!
Not too far after getting onto the Cambie Bridge I captured this photo. You can see the white roof of BC Place in between two newer Yaletown towers.
Here's a mini-panorama of the Olympic Athletes Village, which is still under construction.
This is about halfway across the bridge.
I loved the contrast of this bright red kayak against the grey-green water.
Here's a bank of extra seats sitting outside of BC Place.

Afternoon Walk - Part 3

Yaletown has definitely become home to Vancouver's ultra stylish crowd, which often gives off a radiance of phonyness, but I still think it has its charms.

Seems that the building containing the Yaletown Brewery is adding another floor to its structure.

Lunch at the Tequila Kitchen

I'd recently read a review of the Tequila Kitchen in the Vancouver Courier. While my city has some fine restaurants, it is infamous for its complete lack of authentic Mexican food. So I decided to give this new place a try.

The restaurant is family-owned by people who are actually from Mexico. The service is very friendly and prompt. The food was very good and definitely the best Mexican food I've ever had in Vancouver. The only downside is that it's a bit pricey. Soup, 4 mini-tacos, a little rice, beans, and salad cost $21 with tip. This is quite par for the course for Yaletown but a bit much to do lunch here on a regular basis.

When mi numero uno amigo de Mexico visits this summer then I will take him here for dinner and see what he thinks.

Yaletown Photos

I received one of those different kinds of e-mails this morning that could only happen in what one might call the "Google Age". It was from a woman who found a bunch of my old Vancouver photos on my old personal site. She works for a company in town that is moving into Yaletown and would like to use some of my photos for their website. She offered to pay me for them but I declined, preferring instead that they make some donations of old computer equipment to BC Digital Divide, when they have them available.

To give her more choices, I posted this new page of Yaletown Photos. Enjoy!

Yaletown Street Party

Even though there were grey clouds above, Danny and I decided to walk downtown and check out the Yaletown Street Party. It was alright but seemed like few of the retailers were very involved. There were, however, a collection of beautiful restored old cars displayed on many of the streets.

Plaza of Nations No More

Well okay, the headline's a bit of a misnomer but clearly the glass covered Plaza of Nations on the old Expo 86 grounds looks quite a bit different.

Whatever they eventually do with the property I trust they're going to leave a special plaque that reads: "This is where Mark H. and Peter M. started their illustrious musical careers."

Memories of Expo 86

Were you in Vancouver for Expo 86? It was a fabulous time and somehow the entire city felt newer, better, funner. Is "funner" even a word?! But it really was a great event. One of the architectural highlights of the exposition was a glass-roofed Plaza of Nations. Now 21 years later it's all coming down. Sad, but perhaps inevitable, as most man-made structures on this continent don't seem built to last.
