Michael Ignatieff Curses Vancouver Canucks

This past evening in Vancouver, young Liberal party members presented Michael Ignatieff with this hockey jersey:

There's speculation going around the city that this CURSED the Canucks, causing them to lose 6 - 3 to Chicago. It would be most interesting to find out precisely when this jersey was given to him. Why do I have a sneaking suspicion that it was a little after the Canucks had a 2-0 lead?

Dear Iggy, we understand that you have a much greater affiliation with Chicago. Please just show us some respect and stay out of our city until the Stanley Cup playoffs are over. Thank you.

Who Will Jennifer Burke Now Cheer For?

Now that Brian Burke is the new head of the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team (aka "Commander of the Center of the Universe") it'll be interesting to hear who his pretty wife, Jennifer Burke [nee Mather], will be cheering for. Will her old allegiances to the Vancouver Canucks become yesterday's news?

She very much is one of Vancouver's favourite daughters, having grown up much of her life here. She had an illustrious career on TV and radio before taking a break from it all to raise a family.

I hope that her old colleagues in the Sports Department at CKNW [playfully] get a chance to give her the 3rd Degree questioning about this!

And now that she's back in Canada, let's hope that the local media in Toronto don't place her home province mistakenly in South America like those in Southern California did!

I Believe, I Believe, I Believe ! ! !

The Vancouver Canucks just won Game #7 a few minutes ago! I must confess that I had been reluctant to let myself believe that they could pull a victory out of this series. And Period #1 didn't help on the optimism front. But they pulled it off, with a decisive 4 - 1 victory against Dallas, in no small part due to the amazing play of goalkeeper, Roberto Luongo, pictured here on the right with my friend, Palm Beach Post hockey writer, Brian Biggane.

May the citizens of Vancouver shout in unison: "We Believe, We Believe, We Believe ! ! !"

It's Playoff Time!

Many foreigners I meet think that Canadians are pretty much the same as Americans. Perhaps so, until it comes to the NHL Playoffs! The Vancouver Canucks are one of only three teams in the playoffs this year. Here's a small sampling from some very dedicated Canucks fans:

A Keeper of a Day!

Ever have one of those days where your plans suddenly changed and then something special happened as a result? This is exactly what happened to me today and is a reminder to always be open to opportunities!

My original plans were canceled so I joined a friend and her 2 kids to watch the Florida Panthers hockey team practice for their game against the Vancouver Canucks tomorrow. This was all arranged by another friend of mine who is a hockey writer in South Florida.

Unexpectedly, as we were walking into arena, we ran into the Canucks' all-star goalie, Roberto Luongo. He kindly posed with my friend's son and my other friend, the writer.
