Vancouver Celebration of Light: Night #1
The annual Celebration of Light started again tonight. Danny & I walked down to the beach, where I captured these photos this compilation of videos. I now shoot video only in hi-res 1024 pixel wide mode. And lo and behold, even with a 2GB card, I ran out of space after only about 15 minutes of video!

Vancouver Fireworks #4: The Grand Finale
The previous 3 times, we had walked down to the beach. But quite frankly, I am absolutely pooped. So the thought of walking just a few short blocks to my mom's to watch them was extremely appealing!
First though I made a homemade pizza for Danny et moi. His half is on the left, mine on the right.
My mom has a great vantage point over the harbour except for one ugly building cutting off any view of the lowermost fireworks. But hopefully you'll enjoy them anyhow.

Fireworks #2
For the second of four fireworks events we decided to head down to the West End to join some friends who were graciously putting on a BBQ at English Bay. Included are some shots along the way, the time before the main event, and the fireworks themselves. Three videos are also included for your viewing pleasure.

Fireworks #1
This first night of fireworks was presented by Spain. Not the best I've ever seen, but the finale was fantastic.
Credit for some of these photos goes to Danny, though I can't remember who took which shots.

Was I Right or Was I Wrong?
My original posting stated that I was wrong: "The horrendous garbage didn't appear. Read more here."
But I just learned on the CTV Evening News that this newspaper report was pure fiction! English Bay was a DUMP last night, with thousands of people just leaving their garbage on the beach and others overflowing garbage cans, rather than taking it home. This black mark on the true nature of Vancouverites was covered up only thanks to the overnight work of Vancouver City managers, the morning work of Houston Landscapes, and the later work of other volunteers.
Let's face facts: Most Vancouverites are ignorant little slobs and last night's garbage proves it! So incredibly sad.
