Breaking News: U.S. Airways Jet Crashes in Hudson River

U.S. Airways Flight 1549 crashed earlier today in the Hudson River next to New York City after birds struck both of its engines. But miraculously, all 155 people onboard survived! This included 150 passengers and 5 crew members. The plane was headed to Charlotte, North Carolina.





It reportedly hit the water in between 42nd Street in NYC and Weehawken, NJ. Then it began floating south down the Hudson River.

90th Anniversary of the Boston Molasses Disaster

I have a habit of keeping track of unique or strange events in history. Here's one you've probably never heard of: On January 15, 1919 in Boston, Massachusetts 21 people were killed and 150 were injured . . . by a huge wave of molasses that rushed through the streets at 35mph!

Gondola Follow-up

In what may be reminiscent of the North American Ice Storm of 1998, there is now great speculation that ice caused a gondola tower to snap in half where it was welded. Thankfully no one was killed. The most serious injury was a cracked vertebra.

Breaking News: Excalibur Gondola Accident at Whistler Blackcomb

News is just coming in that one of the towers of the Excalibur Gondola has snapped in half. Let's hope no one was hurt or killed. Photos here.

Stumble Butt

On Sunday I went out for a walk along a waterway with some friends of mine and their kids. I was constantly concerned that their 2-year old was going to trip and do a face plant on her face. She never did. I really should have been more concerned about myself!

Sidewalks in Miami seem to be an afterthought. With little pedestrian traffic, I can understand why. So there I was, walking along when suddenly one of my feet got tripped up when a plate of the sidewalk suddenly rose by 2". Thankfully the only damage was the palm of my left hand:
