The Regina 16

Sitting in their publicly funded ivory towers, high above the Plains of Saskatchewan, the holier-than-thou members of the infamous Regina 16 must have felt a gleeful sense of righteousness when they signed their names to the document that condemned children of deceased Canadians soldiers for receiving scholarship money.  What this Baker's Dozen plus Three didn't consider at the time was the Law of Unintended Consequences.

It has been said that the prime directive of every educator is to teach.  Well, to use a popular phrase of the Dear Leader of the nation to the south, the Regina 16 are now the students in a "Teaching Moment" of their own making, learning that the patience and tolerance of the Canadian people have limits.  Step over some fairly obvious lines and you will feel our wrath and our disgust.

The Year 2010 has been an instructive one about what are and what are not Canadian Values.  Though difficult to precisely define, it appears clear to most that what occurred in Vancouver during the 2010 Winter Olympics were Canadian Values at their finest, namely a definite pride of our country but also an invitation to citizens from around the world to be honourary Canadians and celebrate with us.  Then just a month later, shown on full display is the exact opposite of Canadian Values, with sixteen "professors" spitting on the graves of our dead soldiers and doing their utmost to exclude innocent children from a successful education.

Canadians support free speech and thus the professors' right to say whatever idiotic notions come out of their brains.  But we also believe in accountability and responsibility for misdeeds.  As such, nothing short of individual, sincere apologies from each and every one of the Regina 16 is in order.

I completely and wholeheartedly agree with your well written, thought out and politely Canadian opinion and request for an apology from the "Regina 16". I cannot understate how much it saddens me that my tax dollars contribute to the salaries paying for this diseased line of thinking from this thankless group of buffoons.

Randall, I really like your term "diseased line of thinking". I think I'll use that in the future if you don't mind!
