The Elitists vs. The Rest of Us

Based on everything we've been observing in America of late I'd like to throw a theory out there, which you can either agree with or poke [credible] holes in:

Have you ever wondered whether the elites of a society are actually in collusion with one another, pretending to belong to one party or another, but actually mostly in support of one group, namely themselves?!?

I've recognized for many years that this goes on in the Philippines, where a tiny group of elites control everything but pretend to divide themselves into different factions, giving the illusion of democracy.  Now I've begun wondering if something similar isn't actually going on in the U.S. and Canada.

The first good example of this was provided by the vicious attacks on Christine O'Donnell by Karl Rove, Mike Murphy, John Hindraker, and Charles Krauthammer, to name a few.  Dan Riehl has been covering this better than anybody.  Now a second excellent example has been provided by Lisa Murkowski in Alaska.
