The Coalition's Cap & Trade Plan

There's a critically important fact of the Coalition's plan that has gone under the radar. I first learned of it from Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall in an interview with him here. The interview starts at 8:35, but his pertinent comment starts at 9:50.

Premier Wall points out that the Coalition's Cap & Trade plan is to impose absolute limits on emissions, setting them at 1990 levels. He adds that Saskatchewan is about 60% above that now. One can reasonably assume that Alberta and B.C. are similarly way above those 1990 levels.

Do people fully understand what it will require to quickly remove 40% of our emissions? If anyone believes it can be done with "technology" then please:

  1. Tell me precisely what technology.
  2. How much this will cost each company and each individual.
To double check Premier Wall's statement I went right to the Coalition source: http://xfer.ndp.ca/coalition/2008-12-01-PolicyAccord_en.pdf It states:

We will work with our North American Partners to pursue a North American cap-and-trade market with absolute emission targets, using 1990 as the base year.

Why has this not been a headline news story? Why has there not been an investigative story by our mainstream media, showing what the repercussions of this policy would be?

Pre-Rally Thoughts

I read this posting and immediately had these thoughts:

I’m a strong Conservative supporter but I want an election that has only one Coalition candidate per riding facing each Conservative opponent. I concede that such a move would heighten the chances of the Coalition by eliminating vote splitting. Why would I want this? Because it’s long overdue to get resolved the most important question in our country: “Which direction do we want to head?”

Those on the far right have been sure. Those of us on the moderate right have been sure. But everyone left of that has been in LaLaLand about what they want. The only thing they think they’re sure of is that Stephen Harper is an “evil maniac”. And why do they think this? Because they’ve had a beer with him and saw horns growing out of the top of his head? No, it’s because this is the image that the mainstream media has painted for them, day after day, month after month, year after year. And like mindless Sheeple, they've let the brainwashing occur, the propaganda flow directly into their craniums. No questions asked.

I'm tired of disingenuous Coalition supporters stating that 62% of Canadians support the Coalition. I'm tired of phoney university professors, all of whom appear to support either the Liberals or the NDP, exclaiming what a "dangerous precedent" has been set by giving MPs an extended Christmas holiday. Mostly, I'm tired of all of them and their friends & lovers in the mainstream media treating us like chumps, like rubes, like suckers playing a slot machine that has a Coalition member behind, fixing the results each time. Note to you disingenuous con-artists: We have eyes & ears & brains and can look behind your great big PR machine and see what's really going on.

So decision time is near. Not for us on the right. It’s clear how we’ll vote. Rather, it’s time for those on the left to put their money, their livelihoods, and the future of their children on the line and decide whether they REALLY feel that a government run by liberals, socialists, and separatists is in their best interest.

The Liberal Mind Analyzed by a Psychologist

This book is priceless! Here are some key points in a recent review:

"A social scientist who understands human nature will not dismiss the vital roles of free choice, voluntary cooperation and moral integrity – as liberals do," he says. "A political leader who understands human nature will not ignore individual differences in talent, drive, personal appeal and work ethic, and then try to impose economic and social equality on the population – as liberals do. And a legislator who understands human nature will not create an environment of rules which over-regulates and over-taxes the nation's citizens, corrupts their character and reduces them to wards of the state – as liberals do."

Dr. Rossiter says the liberal agenda preys on weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by:

  • creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization;
  • satisfying infantile claims to entitlement, indulgence and compensation;
  • augmenting primitive feelings of envy;
  • rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government.

"The roots of liberalism – and its associated madness – can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind," he says. "When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious."

Rally For Canada - Msg from Stephen Taylor

Time is ticking down to the Rally For Canada rallies that will be held from coast-to-coast this Saturday.

================
BRITISH COLUMBIA RALLY LOCATIONS:

VANCOUVER - SATURDAY, DECEMBER 6TH, 12PM - LIBRARY SQUARE

VICTORIA - SATURDAY, DECEMBER 6TH, 12PM - CITY HALL

KELOWNA - SATURDAY, DECEMBER 6TH, 12PM - RUTLAND CENTENNIAL HALL

NANAIMO - SATURDAY, DECEMBER 6TH, 10AM - JEAN CROWDER'S OFFICE (77 Victoria Crescent)

COURTENAY - SATURDAY, DECEMBER 6TH, 1PM - COAST WESTERLY HOTEL
================

This movement started just days ago in reaction to the backroom attempt by the NDP, the Liberals and the Bloc to overturn the results of the last election. The Governor General has granted a "cooling off period" of sorts, but we know that Jack and Gilles will be back at it again soon.

So on Saturday, we rally. We rally so that our voices are heard, so that politicians don't abuse our trust and most importantly, we rally for Canada.

For rally day, let's create a sea of red and white! Wear red and white clothing and bring your Canadian flag and wave it proudly. This is a rally for our amazing country and for the celebration of our democratic principles.

Bring:

  • Your family
  • Your friends
  • Warm red and white clothing
  • A Canadian flag
  • A non-perishable food item for the food bank or a Christmas gift to be donated to a needy child through the Salvation Army
  • A love for Canadian democracy

Do:
When we started this movement this week, we had no idea of the overwhelming response that we were about to get. Canadians have a deep rooted love and respect for their democracy and for that we know that this is indeed the True North Strong and Free.

See you on Saturday,
Stephen Taylor

Formal Complaint to the CBC Ombudsman

Here is a copy of the complaint against Don Newman that I've just sent to the CBC Ombudsman, Vince Carlin:

Dear Mr. Carlin:

As you very well know, our great country has gone through the most significant constitutional crisis of our lifetime. To say that it was, and still is, an extremely serious situation would be the understatement of the millennium. The actions of Don Newman throughout all of this have been nothing short of despicable, divisive, and downright dangerous. If he were merely an editorial pundit then I could offer little objection. But a major portion of his role at the taxpayer supported CBC is to be a fair & balanced moderator. In this capacity he earns an 'F'.

His behaviour has been nothing short of highly partisan in support of the Coalition and against the Conservatives. Examples are aplenty. Let me provide you two. On the one hand he was antagonistic, rude, and utterly dismissive of Conservative MP John Baird in the recent interview with him. On the other hand, here's a description of what transpired when he interviewed Liberal MP Derek Lee:

Big Loser: Derek Lee. CBC was desperate to fill air time as they waited for Stephen Harper to finish his chat with Michaelle Jean, so they made the mistake of interviewing Lee, who promptly compared Harper's request to suspend Parliament to the burning of the German Reichstag by the Nazis in 1933. Yeah Derek, they're exactly alike: a party of murderous thugs burning Parliament to the ground is just like the Prime Minister driving to Rideau Hall to request a temporary halt in proceedings while he prepares a budget. How astute of you to spot the similarities.

Source: http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/fullcomment/archive/2008/12/04/winners-and-losers.aspx

It is imperative to note that Mr. Newman did not object to this outrageous comment whatsoever. Yet, he seemed to have no problem objecting to most everything said by MP Baird. Would viewers be wrong to conclude that Mr. Newman actually shares a similar view as MP Lee that Stephen Harper's recent actions are comparable to those of Adolf Hitler's Nazis in 1933? I ask this question not flippantly but absolutely literally.

To end this momentous week on a sour note, we get this very one-sided diatribe from Don Newman: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2008/12/05/f-vp-newman.html

In the realm of Journalistic Ethics at the CBC, is there not a basic requirement for your on-air staff to publicly disclose their clear biases before engaging in an interview? If I'm not mistaken, on every business program it is a mandatory requirement for all involved to fully disclose any stocks they own and/or other company interests they may have related to the discussion at hand. Let me assure you that in Mr. Newman's case, it is a widely held belief of many CBC viewers I've spoken with that he has direct loyalties to the Liberal Party of Canada.

To resolve this complaint to my satisfaction, any of the following would be sufficient:

  • Move Don Newman into a role solely as a pundit and clearly have the words "Liberal Party Strategist" appear underneath his name each time he appears.
  • Require that all interviews he undertakes be done with a conservative-leaning journalist as well, somewhat in the format of "Hannity & Colmes" on Fox News in the U.S.
Finally, please note that my insistence for fair & balanced reporting from Mr. Newman is in no way different from what your past head of CBC News, John Cruickshank, publicly stated a little over two months ago: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2008/09/28/f-vp-cruickshank.html

I eagerly and respectfully await your response.

Sincerely,

Robert W.

Hypocrisy Test

Ezra Levant has written frequently about the head of the Canadian Jewish Congress, Bernie Farber. Here's a recent example.

Yesterday an event occurred which is a major slap in the face to all Jewish people. With a big smile on my face I decided to send out the following e-mail:

Dear Mr. Farber:

I just checked your website and saw that you have not yet learned about the horrible, horrible thing said by a Canadian Member of Parliament yesterday. Here it is:

Mr. Farber, as a prominent Jewish leader in our country, I think you must agree that it is absolutely outrageous for any Canadian to compare the government in our country with the one in Nazi Germany that did such horrific things to your ancestors. But for a Member of Parliament to say such things is beyond the pale! I am not familiar with Derek Lee but am confident that you will demand a public apology from him. Also, he was being interviewed by Don Newman at the time. Mr. Newman didn't feel any need to object to the comment either. Is this also not a slap in the face to all Jewish people to allow such comments to go unchallenged? I have found the CBC Ombudsman's contact info for you: http://www.cbc.ca/ombudsman/page/contact.html

Finally, I know you're a strong supporter of the Ontario Human Rights Commission, so I'm thinking you may very well consider launching a complaint with them against both Mr. Lee and Mr. Newman.

Predictions
  1. Chance of him responding: 5%
  2. Chance of him publicly complaining about Lee or Newman: 0%
  3. Hypocrisy: Priceless!

Positive Signs All Around

Great news is all around us! A new poll by COMPAS Inc. Public Opinion and Customer Research reveals some startling, though not unexpected findings:
If you don't immediately grasp the enormity of 51% support for the Conservatives, then look historically at the Top 10 elections ever in terms of the popular vote:

My only hope is that no one takes this strong support for granted! Indeed, the actions of the Coalition have suddenly awoken the Silent Majority. And they're angry, really angry! But the holidays are coming up and then winter sets in. Through it all our corrupt media, lead by CBC News, will be working hand-in-hand with their friends & lovers in the Liberal and NDP parties to unseat the Conservatives. And this past week has showed us all to what extent they'll go and what false rhetoric (remember the 62% nonsense) they're prepared to use in order to unseat the democratically elected Conservatives. If you care about our democracy then I strongly encourage to show up for tomorrow's rallies. It IS imporant!

Lest We Forget

Update: I also posted this sign on Facebook. There I received this publicly posted comment:

Chris Swan (Esquimalt Secondary School) wrote
at 11:33am
extreme right wing=facist=people working for the government
extreme left wing=communist=government working for the people
which one sounds more dicitorial?

Mr. Swan is 18 years old, states his political views as "New Democratic Party", belongs to a group called "The Eventual downfall of Capitalism WILL bring about Socialism, eventually", doesn't know how to use a spell checker, and clearly doesn't know a thing about the following countries or care a whit about the people in them:
  • China
  • North Korea
  • Vietnam
  • Cambodia
  • Tibet
  • Cuba
  • ... and many, many others

THIS IGNORAMUS IS A PRODUCT OF THE B.C. SCHOOL SYSTEM!!!

The Coalition's Anthem

Had the Coalition survived more than a week, here's one artist's suggestion for their party anthem:

Andrew Coyne: Notes on a crisis: The End

Andrew Coyne has two words tonight to describe Le Coalition: The End

I have four: Dead In The Water

The Magic Number "62"

Pierre Bourque is reporting tonight that a recent poll indicates that 62% of Canadians are angry at the Coalition.

Does this number sound familiar? It is EXACTLY the same percentage of voters that we were told all week were against Harper and thus supposedly in support of the Coalition. In other words, the Radical Left mouthpieces saw that the Conservatives had won 38% of the popular vote in the recent election, so they pulled out their calculators and did the math: 100% - 38% = 62%

On & on they went:

  • 62% of Canadians support the Coalition
  • 62% of Canadians elected a Coalition to govern Canada
  • 62% of Canadians want Harper defeated
Anyone who has worked on a farm knows that bullshit can be shoveled forward for a time but eventually you look down and there's nothing left to push forward.

Such is the case with most everything that comes out of the mouths of Canada's Left these days it seems.

Peace Offering Made to CBC Loyalists

My Dear Socialist Friends,

While I will never understand why you think the way you do, I actually do have great empathy over the way you must be feeling today. Sincerely I do. Probably pretty much the way I felt after Messiah Obama won last month.

Anyhow, there's an old expression that when things get so bad you can either laugh or cry. The former emotion is always preferable. In that spirit, I offer you this.

And look on the bright side: Dion is now finished. So is Rae. Michael Ignatieff will likely emerge the new Liberal leader, in no little part for staying away from a regime that he rightly sensed was going to be hugely unpopular with the majority of Canadians, as is now being clearly revealed in polls.

So sometime next year there will likely be a new election with Harper vs. Ignatieff. I won't vote for Iggy this next time but may very well do so the time after that. A healthy democracy requires at least 2 strong parties. We didn't have that during the Chretien years and we don't have that now. But hopefully we will by 2009/2010 and Canada will be the better for it.

Sincerely,

Robert W.

The True Colours of the Radical Left

To set the tone, you may want to have the audio from this playing in the background.

The following was heard on the radio airwaves of Vancouver this afternoon:

Caller from Surrey: "The democratic process should have been allowed to work. Harper is such an evil maniac!"

Vancouver East NDP MP Libby Davies: "Unlike Harper, who makes all his decision based on partisanship, we in the Coalition have put our own interests aside and are doing all of this only in the best interests of Canadians."

Personal note: Is it any wonder why people are so sick and distrustful of most all politicians?

Uneasy Lies the Head that Wears a Ton of Crowns [Mark Steyn]

A propos yesterday's post on Canada's constitutional crisis, a large number of readers have written along the following lines:

Hey Mark,
You want to explain for us Americans with a functioning government how in the hell the Queen of England is still deciding who rules places like Canada and Australia?? I thought Britain basically wrote off nearly ever part of governance of the former colonies legislatively, no??
Canada — 232 years behind the times??

Well, the short(ish) answer is that Her Majesty does not reign over Moose Jaw or Alice Springs in her capacity as "Queen of England". Although the Queen of the United Kingdom, the Queen of Canada and the Queen of Australia happen to be the same person in the corporeal sense, in the legal and constitutional sense they happen to be three different persons (and have been since the 1931 Statute of Westminster).

And yes, if you were starting from scratch, you probably wouldn't devise a system whereby the head of state lives thousands of miles away. But, on the other hand, the thing about peaceful constitutional democracies is that, unlike post-Nazi Germany or post-Saddam Iraq or post-umpteenth-coup Liberia, they don't often find themselves starting from scratch.

PS When I say that several different persons are contained within the body of the Queen, I am not endorsing the thesis of former BBC sports anchor and Coventry City goalkeeper David Icke that Her Majesty is a shape-shifting blood-drinking space lizard from the star system Alpha Draconis running the planet through a secret world government of child-abusing Satanist Illuminati. If that were the case, I'm pretty sure this whole Canadian constitutional crisis wouldn't be happening.

Those "Unbiased" University Professors

Apparently I'm not the only one who has noticed the complete B.S. that the media are trying to shove down our throats these days. Charles Adler hits the ball out of the park with his editorial today. You can listen to him reading it at 34:00 here. Please, please do! Here's are a few snippets:

I expect the Governor General to continue to take her prime counsel from the Prime Minister as opposed to the growing gaggle of opportunists, unionists, and academics who want to conquer the National treasury and bankrupt it.

It's hard for us to believe that people in this country will surrender everything we own to TENURED university professors. Why am I saying this? Because the TV airwaves in this country are populated by University Professors who claim not to be political but make it abundantly obvious that they hate conservatives so much that they are willing to clear their throats and hold their noses and rubber stamp this Coalition of the Three Amigos, the Three Jokers, The Three Stooges of Coupscam.

In the meantime, it is up to the rest of us to make sure that if there is a change of government in this land it happens because we voted for it. We don't live in Waziristan. This is Canada, the True North, Strong, and FREE. And we should feel free to express our desire to have our democracy nurtured by the will of the people. Not tortured by the Three Stooges of Coupscam.

Here's one interesting tidbit: In a recent poll, Canadians were asked who is the best party to manage the economy. The results:

  • 34% Conservatives
  • 14% Liberals
  • 7% NDP
Yet all we keep on hearing is that "Canadians have lost confidence in the Conservative government to get us through these tough economic times." It's called Liberal Math.

The Dion Tape Song

Here's a good laugh to end this crazy week.

How Things Change ... When It's Convenient

Lorrie Goldstein illustrates the enormous hypocrisy of Stephane Dion in this article. Here are 4 choice quotes from the past

(1) Dion, April 4, 1997: "We are a federation threatened with break-up, and faced with a separatist ideology which promotes suspicion, divisions and envy between citizens. When one group of MPs arrives in Ottawa with the sole mandate of promoting the interests of their own region, this encourages other regions to elect MPs who in turn promote only their interests, and we lose any sense of a national opposition committed to the good of Canada as a whole.''

(2) Dion, Dec. 10, 1998: "Let me sum up this separatist-style politics of booty ... It consists of demanding something from the federal government; more power, more money. If the federal government says no, then you return to Quebecers and you tell them: You see how unyielding and unfair this federation is to you, we've got to get out! If the federal government says yes, the message to Quebecers becomes: You see the bargaining power you get by electing separatists, so imagine the power you'd have if you voted 'Yes' in a referendum ... So how does one thwart this logic of booty? Quite simply, by refusing to play the game. By stating very clearly that one has no intention of giving in to this kind of blackmail ... We won't improve this social union by trying to accommodate the separatists or those who might be tempted to vote for them."

(3) Dion, March 2, 1996: "In the past, as much as Liberals may have disagreed with the Conservatives and the NDP, at least we knew that we shared a common belief in Canada. Today, with the regionalist parties (like the Bloc) this is not the case. We need many leaders, not just Liberals, who will stand up again for our common Canadian values."

(4) Dion, Nov. 26, 1996: "There is a great contrast between the tolerance of Quebec society and the intolerance of the secessionist option ... That is why Quebec secession is a project which favours exclusion, and would breed intolerance and division among communities that are now living in harmony."

And yet, we have the Sheeple throughout the media telling us that Le Coalition is the best thing for Canada and that if we disagree then we're either unpatriotic or prejudiced toward Quebecers. How do journalists actually sleep at night? Only through booze & pills perhaps?!?

Hilarious Quote about Le Coalition de Trois

"This Coalition makes me feel like Luke Skywalker seeing the Death Star for the first time: 'I have a very bad feeling about this.' "

One Country, Different Views

I spotted this post on SDA this morning:

While I have my own thoughts on this recent gong show, it has been striking how little Canadians know about their own system of governance, and the Parliamentary system.

We do not have representative democracy in this country. Never have.

So when I see really dumb statements like "But it wouldn't matter, 'cause they will not have been elected!", it truly strikes me how much ignorance exists among citizens.

Guess its the way of the world. That, and one generation of politically correct civics classes teaching nothing.

I do trust and hope the Cons will go through, political instability at a time like this is idiotic. But Harper's cowardly climbdown from Party financing was - to say the least - inelegant.

Doing something that is right, is always right, no matter what the timing.

Clearly some good thought went into this fellow's words. I felt compelled to respond with some of my own:

I fully understand that we do not have a representative democracy in this country. BUT I am adamant that beyond Constitutional Legitimacy there is also Democratic Legitimacy, which is arguably even more important that the former.

If voters in a democracy do not have the perception of their vote counting then the democracy is doomed. Period. Don't believe me? Talk with the "voters" in Zimbabwe.

The fact is that collectively Canadians elected a Conservative minority government. Period. Full stop. One can be a Radical Leftist CBC News Kool Aid Drinker and playing "62% mind games" but such talk is all nonsense and completely flies in the face of 141 years of our history.

For me, the primary reason there is no Democratic Legitimacy to Le Coalition is the timing. It's not even 2 months after the recent election. A budget hasn't even been presented. Yet now our vote is going to be discarded?

The secondary reason is the revelation that Jack Layton, Gilles Duceppe, and possibly Stephane Dion had this all planned long ago. Whether or not we all should have heard the NDP Conference Call is up for debate but we did and heard in Layton's own words what he & the others had cooked up.

On these two reasons alone, what historical precedent is there for the government being overthrown in Canada? 1985 in Ontario and 1926 federally are frequently cited by Le Coalition supporters. Neither are remotely similar to what is going on now. So there is no precedent. And there's an obvious reason why there's no precedent: Because if it were commonplace then minority governments would be thrown out of office every few months and the stability we've all enjoyed and prospered from would be thrown into ruin.

The tertiary reason is the 3rd pillar of Le Coalition, the Bloc Quebecois. I find it rather peculiar/perverted that a party dedicated to removing Quebec from Canada (which would likely lead to the breakup of the rest of Canada btw) is now going to be part of the government. I concede that this is a weaker argument than the other two but is still very real in the minds of many, especially Western Canadians it seems.

You can argue that there's no such thing as Democratic Legitimacy in a Parliamentary System. But I will absolutely & vehemently disagree for the rest of my days on this planet.

How the Media Divides Us

On the topic of "Media Shaping Public Opinion", here's a textbook example that should be used by political science and psychology classes for decades to come.

In the interview Finance Minister Jim Flaherty seems reasoned and logical to me. But to someone who has a predisposition against the Conservatives and/or doesn't inform themselves beyond the headlines about the global economic situation, it's easy to imagine how, after watching this interview, they would be angry with Flaherty.

Throughout, Craig Oliver is clearly trying to shape the interview from a very specific agenda. He has no intention of obtaining information from Flaherty. Instead, he's just trying to embarrass him. His phrasing of the questions comes from the perspective of, "You moron, you dummy, you backwoods neocon, how on earth can you possibly not be spending billions more dollars now, Now, NOW?!?"

Mr. Oliver, if you and your friends in Le Coalition had your way, specifically how much money should be given to GM, Ford, & Chrysler? What will this do for them? Since the demand for their cars has dropped dramatically, who specifically will they be selling cars to? If the U.S. ends up balking at any bailouts to these same 3 companies, can we count on you to personally retrieve our wasted taxpayer dollars back?

But sadly, most people don't these questions of the media. The original narrative of the journalist is allowed to continue, without ever questioning it. In this way, public opinion splits ... and the media take absolutely no responsibility.

By the way, at around 6:10 in the interview, Craig Oliver wins the Economic Ignoramus of the Year award by saying, "Reducing taxes doesn't put money into people's pockets."

And yet he is considered to be one of the leading lights in the Canadian media. Sigh.

A Reporter Mocking Stephane "Webcam Boy" Dion

In case you missed it, besides being provided very late, here was the "not ready for primetime" address from Dion, filmed on what looks like a $39.95 webcam:

Is this not proof that their truly is a God?!?

Update #1: Ezra Levant has a lot more details on what transpired this evening. Remember, this is the leader of the team that wants to seize power from the government we elected. He claims he knows how to run things better.

Update #2: Adam Rawanski has written an article entitled "Dion's Amateur Hour". Here's a key segment:

The presentation itself was plainly appalling. At a time when he needed to look reassuring, to look prime ministerial, he looked exactly the way the Conservatives have been trying to portray him - like the leader of some sort of third-rate coup, being filmed in his hideout with one of his accomplices sticking a cheap video camera in his face.

I'm aware this sounds trivial. It's not. And any commentator who overlooks the presentation tonight is being way too kind.

Hilarious Rant by a Sick Guy on Too Much Caffeine

I referred to the fellow as "sick" only because he said he was, with an ear infection. The caffeine bit was just a guess! He actually reminds me of a young Dennis Miller.

If You're Going to Lie, Make it a Really, Really BIG One!

I was just listening to Rob Breakenridge's show on CHQR in Calgary. Being interviewed was Gil McGowan, President of the Alberta Federation of Labour (AFL). You can listen to it here.

He had the audacity to say that "the Liberals and NDP are the most staunch federalists in Canada." He said it with such conviction that perhaps he didn't even know how much he was lying.

How else to explain such a comment?

Why do I suspect it won't be too much longer before Coalition supporters are telling us that "2 + 2 = 7" and screaming at us when we dare to disagree?!

At first I didn't recognize McGowan's name. But then I remembered. He and his union were the ones responsible for the "Albertans For Change" campaign & website, attacking Premier Ed Stelmach and his Conservatives earlier this year. The AFL reportedly spent more than $1 Million on the vicious ad campaign.

Sadly for McGowan et co. it all backfired. Not only did it not help the NDP they were supporting, but it was regarded as pivotal in diminishing their seats from 4 to 2. NDP Leader Brian Mason was furious. So were several labour groups.

LabourWatch details the whole sorted affair. Here's a telling snippet:

Without express permission from almost 200,000 unionized Albertans, union leaders in Alberta are claiming to be representatives of them wanting change in Alberta. Negative political attack ads were launched on TV and radio on January 14, 2008. Of course the ads do not even remotely hint at their union connections. Only a dedicated website discloses union connections but has the audacity to allow visitors to infer that almost 200,000 Albertan voices support one of the worst forms of political activity – negative attack ads.

Fortunately, two Member Associations of LabourWatch decided to stand up for unionized Albertans and call into question this abuse of forced union dues. On January 24, 2008 the Merit Contractors Association and the National Citizens Coalition ran newspaper ads across Alberta. The Campaign: “ Union leaders are putting YOUR money where THEIR mouths are” drew attention to the critical issues arising from this abuse of union dues.

Am I the only one who sees irony here deeper than the Grand Canyon? First Gil McGowan hijacks the Alberta NDP's election strategy and is accused by many in the labour movement of improperly spending/wasting union dues. Yet not a thing happens to his own employment with the AFL. Now we hear him telling us that Stephen Harper must lose his job ... for what reasons we're not quite sure but as part of the explanation we're told to believe that the Conservatives are hurting this country whilst the Liberals & NDP, in bed with Quebec separatists, are "staunch federalists". Okay, sure Gil, sure.

Given Mr. McGowan's track record, Stephane Dion & Jack Layton might want to think twice about having him speak out for them.

On a completely unrelated note I found this fascinating article about pathological liars.

Stephane Dion in 1992

The Stephane Dion of 1992 appears to be most prescient of the Stephane Dion of 2008:

Canada on the brink, cont. [Mark Steyn]

I apologize if this seems a bit arcane to those accustomed to fixed election dates, two-year campaigns and three-month transitions. But what's happening in Canada is shaping up as the biggest constitutional crisis in the country's history. Remember when Jim Jeffords flipped control of the Senate to the Dems because he wasn't invited to the Vermont Teacher Of The Year reception? This is the nuclear version of that.

To recap: the soft left (Liberals), hard left (NDP) and secessionist left (the Bloc Quebecois) have entered into a backroom agreement signed in blood (and with many billions of dollars and Senate seats changing hands) and are leaning on the Governor-General to fire the Conservative Prime Minister and replace the present government with a "coalition" - a misbegotten pantomime horse comprised of three rear ends. The Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, is contemplating ways to avoid defenestration and will be addressing the nation (I use the term loosely) this evening.

I disagree with David Frum's interpretation of the 1975 Australian constitutional crisis and of his characterization of the Queen's view of it. But he's right that this is the relevant precedent. Three decades ago, the Australian Governor-General, Sir John Kerr, fired the Prime Minister, Gough Whitlam. Whitlam's first words on being told the news were supposedly: "I must call the Palace." He meant that, if he got through to the Queen in London, he could fire Kerr before Kerr could fire him. Sir John told him it was too late: He'd already spoken to Her Majesty. But Whitlam captured the hard-power reality: It was a question of who got through to Buckingham Palace first - the Governor-General to say he'd fired the Prime Minister, or the Prime Minister to demand the Queen fire the Governor-General.

In Canada, Stephen Harper is said to be considering doing for real what only belatedly occurred to Gough Whitlam - having the Queen fire Mme Jean, Canada's vicereine, and replace her with somebody who'd tell the pantomime horse to get lost.

If they're the choices - a constitutional coup by the opposition parties or Harper's proposed solution - serious and lasting damage will be inflicted on Canada's institutions either way. The best way to avoid either option would be if the Liberal leader-in-waiting Michael Ignatieff (former Harvard prof, former BBC talkshow host and former Iraq war supporter) were to decline to support the coup and bring enough fellow Libs along with him.

Otherwise, whatever happens, it's going to be ugly. The "checks and balances" of most free societies operate on a kind of honor system. In the Westminster form of parliamentary monarchy, the important stuff isn't written down: it depends on codes and conventions agreed over the ages. All very gentlemanly - until some thug decides he doesn't care about gentlemen's agreements and drives a truck over the conventions. That's what the three-reared horse is proposing to do.

Another Letter to the Governer General

To: Her Excellency
the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, C.C., C.M.M., C.O.M., C.D.
Governor General of Canada

Politicians need a swift and strong reminder: they represent the electorate and serve at our pleasure.

What have these people achieved who are bestowed with such a prestigious role and title of "Honourable" Member, when they cannot proclaim the basic behaviour and belief of "Peace, Order, Good Governance"? Besides personal glory and gluttony?

It is long past time that a thorough, transparent accounting occur with Government - who spend - unfettered OUR tax dollars.

Economic and world conditions are precarious and most turbulent - it is clear thoughtful, prudent and extra-ordinary measures must be executed to safeguard our Country. I trust an economist to possess a better comprehension of the complexities and interdependence of such matters domestically and their external global relationship. It would be irresponsible to support a flailing, do anything especially wild spending that are only band-aids on a slashed jugular - it is short term and short sighted.

Government MUST cut costs in all areas of each department and programme - just like every taxpayer has to do - like it or not.

The immediate cessation of Taxpayers Subsidizing Political Parties, $30 Million per annum is a start.

Politicians crafted tax legislation to generously reward and entice political donations with a whopping 75% tax credit!!

While "everyone" gives lip service to helping others - the Red Cross or Salvation Army certainly don't receive such tax incentives.

I thank you in advance for your time to read my email, it is far longer than I intended and there is far more to express, which will be in short order, just not at this time. However, I shall sign off with this:

Should it be decided that our newly elected Parliament - cannot proceed nor succeed - as a Canadian citizen, legally entitled to vote, it is this Taxpayer's Demand that an immediate election is called - so that we the people who pay for all of this, vote to unequivocally determine who governs Canada during this time of uncertainty and market crisis.

On June 6th, 2001 Prime Minister Chretien directed the Members of Parliament to approve a 42% and 20% pay increase, including a few perks for the Senators to ensure swift passage in both the House of Commons and the Upper Chamber. Not only was the Bill passed in a record three days but, it was also retro-active six months, which brings us to barely a month after Federal Election. This major legislation was, considered irrelevant to Taxpayers, as it wasn’t even hinted at prior to the Election.

Your role - unless you defer to the Queen of England, must ensure our democratic rights are not usurped again.

Respectfully,

Sandra Miller

Constitutional Legitimacy vs. Democratic Legitimacy

This afternoon I heard a U. of T. Law Professor talking about the decisions the Governor General can possibly make. He kept on repeatedly using the words "Constitutional Legitimacy". I fully understand their meaning but surely there is another type of "legitimacy" that deserves equal, if not more, consideration?

Since I'm an engineer and a numbers guy, let me provide her with some quick notes:

Math Primer for the Governor General

Choice #1: Give control to Le Coalition
Constitutional Legitimacy = 100%
Democratic Legitimacy: 0%

Choice #2: Force another election to be held
Constitutional Legitimacy = 100%
Democratic Legitimacy: 100%

I ask once again: What legitimate objection can anyone provide arguing against Choice #2?

CANADIANS DEMAND AND DESERVE ANOTHER ELECTION

Update: Unlike the hate mail I received from one commenter, it looks like I'm not such a big dummy after all! In this article, Ted McWhinney, a constitutional expert, lawyer, and former Liberal MP had some thoughts to share on this subject:

Ted McWhinney, a lawyer, former Liberal MP and constitutional expert, told CTV's Mike Duffy Live that Jean does not need to give Harper an answer right away and should talk with a number of advisers.

He also said Jean needs to weigh public opinion on the matter.

"Public opinion is about 50 per cent of constitutional law," McWhinney said Wednesday. "The common sense element is crucial in these things.

McWhinney said there "is a heavy burden" on the opposition to prove that they can form a stable coalition government.

He said it's important for the opposition to put an agreement down on paper, like they have already done, but said the agreement needs to be signed by the Bloc Quebecois in addition to the Liberals and NDP.

McWhinney called the current agreement as is "unsatisfactory."

Communists Endorse Le Cabal de Trois!

In the biggest shock of the New Millennium the Communist Party of Canada has endorsed the takeover of the Canadian government by Le Coalition.

It has not yet been disclosed whether Stephane Dion has promised any Senate seats or "donations" for this endorsement. Developing...

Stephane Dion vs. The People of Canada

Here's Stephane Dion's letter to the Governor-General. Read the full PDF therein and you'll see that NOT ONCE does he mention the People of Canada.

Indeed, what Le Coalition is attempting to do is technically legal but that does not make it legitimate or right. No one's saying that Le Coalition can't govern. But FIRST they must get their mandate from the People.

With the "62% support of the people" that they keep on telling us about, why are they so scared of an election?

Very scary times ... but perhaps a wake-up call to Canadians that we must now all actively participate in our democracy.

The Truth about Sarah Palin, Not the MSM's Narrative

Good on Sarah Palin for not paying any attention to the views of the MSM in the U.S. Apparently she played a major role in securing victory for Georgia Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss in yesterday's runoff vote.

It has not escaped my attention that the Canadian media has been using some very similar tactics in order to bring their much hated Stephen Harper down. I hope he pays them no attention either. The don't deserve it.

An Online Petition

I'm not usually a big fan of online petitions but here's an important one for you to considering filling out: Canadians For Democracy

It has become clear that the entire debate about what the Governor General should may very well come down to a PR war between those of us who believe in real democracy versus those who believe in a legal democracy.

No one has provided any reasonable answer to why we shouldn't have another election: Le Coalition vs. the Conservatives. Let's get this issue decided once & for all and gain some stability in Canada.

CANADIANS DEMAND & DESERVE ANOTHER ELECTION

Gary Mason: In the West, a deep sense of betrayal

I think that finally the message is getting through to the mostly liberal (and Liberal) MSM. A prime example of this is Gary Mason's column in the Globe and Mail today. Here's a snippet:

In all my years listening to the callers who make talk radio in Vancouver such a hit, I have never heard such anger. Of the dozens who phoned in yesterday morning to Bill Good's No. 1-rated talk show on CKNW, calls were running 95 per cent against the coalition. If there were Liberals and New Democratic supporters out there who thought the coalition was a good idea, they weren't dialling in.

But the coalition partners have no interest in [giving up their chance at power]. It's all about power now, power they couldn't have imagined a month ago. Power they will do anything for, even if it means holding hands with separatists.

This is the part of the deal that many Canadians find so vile and unseemly. It is certainly the element that has upset British Columbians.

How do you bury your values and ideals, your sense of country, to that degree and have any credibility left?

As one caller to Mr. Good said: "When I heard that I felt sick to my stomach."

I think that's how a lot people continue to feel today. There is something morally dishonest about what the Liberals and the NDP are trying to do, and both parties are taking an enormous risk proposing it.

Make no mistake though, the battle isn't over yet. Their are still plenty of corrupt talkshow hosts and an endless stream of "professors" who will sell the best interests of Western Canadians down the river in a Toronto minute. For them, their loyalty to the Magnanimous Liberal Party of Canada overrides all other considerations. So keep on fighting folks!

My Letter to the Governor General

To: Her Excellency,
The Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean
Governor General of Canada

Dear Madame,

I am writing you with grave concerns about the enormous perception of injustice resulting from what's occurring in Ottawa right now. Simply put, many, many Canadians, especially here in Western Canada where I live, believe that our democratically elected federal government is being hijacked by a group of politicians who never received the mandate to govern.

No one that I know of is saying that "The Coalition" can't rule Canada. All that we're demanding is that they present their case to the People of Canada and let the voters decide.

The Coalition and their supporters keep telling us that they have support from over 62% of the electorate. Fine. Then prove it! Let The Coalition run head-to-head with the Conservatives. In a given riding The Coalition should run only one candidate in total, chosen from one of the Liberal/NDP/Bloc Quebecois/Green Party partners. Let this candidate face the Conservative candidate head-on.

Who can possibly argue with this? It will be the best spent $300 Million in this country's history. And this money, by the way, gets injected back into the economy anyway, providing an immediate down payment on the economic stimulus that The Coalition is demanding. So when that 62% support for The Coalition translates into a majority of seats for them, they can then spend their planned $30 Billion as well.

I do not hide the fact that should the Conservatives lose this election then I will be sad. But at the same time, I will completely accept that this is the collective choice that my fellow Canadians have made.

An added benefit of this plan I am presenting to you is it will guarantee that a majority party will be elected and that government stability in Ottawa is finally achieved, which everyone agrees is what we truly need right now.

Sincerely,

Robert W.

Rally for Canada - Protest Slogans

In anticipation of this Saturday's Rally For Canada event, I've thought up some protest slogans which would be perfect for signs. Never in my life have I ever attended such a protest but our Democracy is much too important to sit back and do nothing ... no matter how much our corrupt, deeply biased media tells us that we should act like Sheeple and complacently let our democratic vote be stolen.

If you have more ideas for slogans please leave a comment. Be sure to leave at least your first name and your community/province as readers will appreciate knowing where a slogan came from.

Here's my first set, which I will expand as more good ones come to my attention:

They may be the

More Voices on the Constitutional Crisis

Kelly McParland: "Stephane Dion is paying heavily for his hoped-for six months at 24 Sussex Drive He started Monday with his principles . . . read the rest.

George Jonas: "Needless to say, the mere fact that something is legal doesn’t make it either right or desirable. If the endorsement of the Conservatives in the 2008 elections was far from unequivocal, the rejection of the Liberals in general, and their leader, Stéphane Dion, in particular, certainly was. Whatever Canadians wanted six weeks ago when they went to the polls, what they clearly did not want was a Liberal prime minister, especially Stéphane Dion. If this is what they end up getting, constitutional as it may be, it will be a mockery of democracy." Full editorial here.

I Must Be A "Radical"!

On CKNW this morning, the sentiments are running 9 - 1 against Le Cabal de Trois. Yet there's always that one ... in this case it was an elitist liberal woman who said that the opposition to The Coalition is strictly "a bunch of radicals".

  • If it's "radical" to be outraged that the political will of Canadians is being discarded just 49 days after an election then I'm guilty.

  • If it's "radical" to be outraged that a core part of this Unholy Alliance is the Bloc Quebecois, a party devoted to the destruction of Canada then I'm guilty.

  • If it's "radical" to demand that another election be held to let Canadians decide whether their future should be determined by Dion as PM, Layton as Finance Minister, and Duceppe as Godfather then I'm guilty.

CANADIANS DESERVE AND DEMAND A NEW ELECTION!!!

Le Cabal de Quatre

I didn't want to say anything about Elizabeth May and the Green Party until they actually spoke up about this. Now they have.
Not only has she drank from the Unholy Chalice, but has done so enthusiastically. I hope that Western Canadians in particular pay close attention to this when they next vote.

Letter Sent to the GG by a Passionate Believer in Democracy

For what it is worth here is the text of an email I sent to the Governor General:

1 December 2008

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean
Governor General of Canada
Rideau Hall
1 Sussex Drive
Ottawa, Ontario
K1A 0A1

Excellency:
I am writing to ask that if the Government falls you dissolve parliament and send Canadians to the polls. Please do not allow the coalition that is supported by the seditionists of the Bloc Quebecois to have a say in how our country is run unless that coalition first faces Canadians at the polls. I ask you to think of the men and women of our Armed Forces who serve under you, and have lately made so many sacrifices for you. To give our country over to those that wish to destroy it would be an affront to those who serve Canada and have sworn an oath of allegiance to you.

Sincerely,

I copied my MP, The PM, leaders of the 3 opposition parties, and the Queen.

A Western Canadian's Perspective

On a political discussion forum a battle between two fellows got rather heated when one, a Westerner, suggested that separation is the only logical course of action for the West. The other fellow got quite angry and started talking about sending in the military to put that to rest. To this latter fellow I wrote this:
I'm not going to get into the middle of your personal battle with the other fellow but may I ask what part of Canada you live? Might it be Ontario?

I currently live in Vancouver and was born & raised here. But I've also spent years each living in Manitoba, Ontario, & Quebec. Through it all I think I have a pretty good perspective on the regional differences of various Canadians.

One thing I understand for sure is that if a given geographic group of people feel disenfranchised for too long a period of time then they feel no particular loyalty toward their central government. And frankly, why should they?

The separatists that we now call "Americans" had very good reason to break off from Britain. The different peoples of Yugoslavia had good reason to split apart too. And so did the various former Eastern Bloc countries have solid reasons for gaining their independence.

I look at Canada's Confederation much like a marriage, although perhaps it's more of a polygamous marriage with one husband and 10 wives! :-) Anyhow, many here in the West have very legitimate and sincere reasons for feeling that Ontario & Quebec have taken them for granted for much too long.

For you, perhaps this current situation is strictly about 3 parties fighting a battle with 1 other party. There is that, of course. But it has not escaped the attention of all of us in the West with small-c or large-C conservative leanings that the current actions are set to remove a democratically elected Western PM by 3 fellows solely from Ontario & Quebec. And even the 2 "backup" Liberals are strictly Toronto-centric.

If you'd like a hockey analogy, imagine that all of the referees in the NHL hailed from the Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal corridor. Every time the Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, & Edmonton Oilers played one of their eastern counterparts they would lose and the officiating was always suspect. If you were a supporter of one of the Western teams, it surely wouldn't be too long until you cried foul!

So I'm hoping you'll be able to have a little more empathy and understanding that we in the West very much feel that we are being kicked in the teeth by all of this and our votes have been taken away on a whim. What kind of sane person wouldn't be very upset about that? Sentiments of Western Separation will only grow & grow the longer the perception of unfairness continues.

Canada's Constitutional Crisis: 3 Preferred Outcomes

This evening I spoke at length with a Canadian friend in the U.S. We both came to the conclusion that these are the most preferential scenarios, starting with the best first:

  1. The Governor General grants Stephen Harper's [anticipated] request to hold another election, in which all but the Radical Left in this country will tell the Liberals and the NDP what they think of this disgrace and abandonment of all democratic tradition.

  2. The GG grants Le Cabal de Trois their wish to control the reins of power as they see fit. Keep in mind that the world is entering a recession and Jack Layton will be the Finance Minister. Let that sit in your mind for awhile. Eventually there will be an election and then Canadian voters will have their say.

  3. The GG forces everyone to go back to Parliament and this mess continues.

P.S. #2 is reflected upon by Jonathan Kay here. Michael Bliss provides an astute commentary of why the GG can not let #2 occur.

Mark Steyn: Small Earthquake in Canada

Mark Steyn, one of Canada's most famous & influential writers has just written the following column in "The Corner", an American conservative blog read by a LOT of people:

The difference between the US system and a parliamentary democracy is that, in the latter, events can turn on a dime (as Mrs Thatcher discovered in 1990). In Canada, in October, Stephen Harper's Conservative Party was returned to office - not with a majority in the House of Commons but nevertheless with an increased minority. By contrast, Canada's formerly "natural governing party", the Liberals, got their lowest percentage of the vote since 1867, shriveling away to their Toronto heartland with a few redoubts in the Maritimes and the Yukon. Stephane Dion, an unpopular eco-obsessive with an ascetic mien and poor English presiding over an impoverished party trying to sell the nation an unwanted "Green Shift", immediately announced his resignation as leader, and it seemed the Tories would have the luxury of watching the Loyal Opposition tearing itself apart all winter electing his replacement.

Now, a mere six weeks later, what David Frum calls "the Harper government"* is about to fall, and the fellow set to replace him as Prime Minister is the October flopperoo Dion, reborn as leader of a freakshow coalition of Canada's three opposition parties - the soft left, the hard left and the separatist left, all of whom have figured out that what they have in common (unbounded love of big government) is bigger than what divides them. Which is true. Quebec separatism is mostly one almighty bluff, a giant racket by which the francophone minority screws out of English Canada a hugely disproportionate share of the spoils. The Bloc Quebecois are separatists who have no interest in separating: no matter how wide you open the stable door, the flea-bitten old nag refuses to bolt. Granted all that, it's weird to see the Liberals, until recently the most electorally successful party in the western world, reduced to climbing into bed with separatists and socialists.

How this will all play out I haven't a clue. There are those who say Harper's a genius to allow himself to be temporarily dethroned in glum economic times by two unpopular Quebeckers (M Dion and the separatist Gilles Duceppe) who'll get stuck with the blame for everything that goes wrong. Maybe. But Quebeckers are to Canada what the Sunni were to Saddam's Iraq: For 40 years they've been in charge, except for the very briefest of intervals. And once they're in getting them out usually proves tricky. This photograph, showing the two wily francophones sealing the deal with the socialist moustache "Taliban Jack" Layton (on the left) may confirm western Canucks' suspicions that Canada is a de facto colony of Quebec. Meanwhile, I like the game of trying to find a name for this coalition of the alleged talents: Canada's Natural Governing Separatist Party, New Libs on the Bloc, etc.

It is, of course, a disaster for that small band of Canadians interested in small government, non-confiscatory taxation, and freedom from nanny-state tyrannies like the "human rights" commissions. But the idea that, in half the time it takes Washington to accomplish the elephantine transition from one administration to the next, a government can be elected, demolished and replaced is not without a certain grim appeal.

(*I'm a constitutional pedant: It's Her Majesty's Government, but Mr Harper's ministry.)

Significant Conservative Support Across Most of Canada

Many people seem not aware of just how much support the Conservatives have won across Canada. Here are the results from the CBC website. Though they're not the final "official" results, the percentage changes in each province will be very tiny. For a 5-party race (where each such party got at least 5% of the vote), the Conservatives won the largest share by far of any party. For historical comparisons, please look here.

Rally for Democracy Across Canada

This Saturday, December 6th there will be rallies across Canada to protest this unprecedented takeover of the Canadian government. I'm definitely attending the one in Vancouver (at Robson Square) and hope you do too!

Kim Campbell Must Be Smiling!

Whatever happens over the next few weeks, I have to believe that Canadians, when given the chance to vote, will show Stephane Dion and the Liberals precisely what they think of throwing away 141 years of democratic history. Ms. Campbell's infamous moniker of "the most unsuccessful Prime Minister in history" will soon become Dion's crown ... and likely stay there for eternity.

Canadians, Meet Your Unelected New Leaders

Oh wait, sorry ... technical glitch ... don't know how that happened. :-)

Here's the correct photo:
The gauntlet has been thrown down. Le Cabal de Trois will not be backing down now.

The next step is to find out whether Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, will demand that a new election be called.

After that, we will wait to learn what Governor General, Michaëlle Jean, decides. If she gives permission to the trio above to take over the government without any such mandate from the Citizens of Canada then she will forever destroy the notion of democracy in the eyes of all who actually care about democracy.

Eventually a federal election will be held. When that occurs the citizens will be given the ability to decide whether they approve of Le Cabal de Trois. We can only hope that enough people will realize that the Liberals and NDP need to be punished so severely that no one will ever attempt this again for at least another 100 years.

Postscript: All those in support of a proportional representation voting system better realize that should it come in - either here in B.C. or elsewhere - that such dysfunctional government will almost certainly become the norm.

Memo to the Premiers of B.C., Alberta, & Saskatchewan

What I would like to see is [at least] the 3 most Western premiers hold a joint press conference and say the following:

We recognize that our country has hit a constitutional brick wall. But we adamantly oppose the idea of a transfer of power occurring in this way. So we respectfully request that the Governor General let the people of Canada decide which path this country takes. It is too important to do otherwise.

Do you think they might do this?

The Poor Math Skills of the Left

Le Cabal de Trois has just announced that they plan to spend $30 Billion once they seize power from the democratically elected government. If you think that this money will be spread evenly and spent wisely then you are dreaming! It will be absolutely wasted on corporate welfare and union welfare.

At the same time, the supporters of Le Cabal are adamant that "there's no need for another election". "After all," they add, "it would cost $300 Million."

Our friends on the Left clearly must have failed Grade 8th Math. To help them out, let's illustrate with big bold digits precisely the difference:

  • Option #1: Hold an Election - Cost: $300,000,000.00

  • Option #2: Avoid an Election - Cost: $30,000,000,000.00
Option #2 will be ONE HUNDRED times more expensive than Option #1. And if the people of Canada so decide in their favour, then Le Cabal de Trois can still spend the huge amount a few months later.

Canada's New Chinese Government

Listening to Bill Good this morning has been beyond frustrating. He quoted an unnamed Liberal Member of Parliament who said, "People probably won't like it, but if we provide good government, they'll accept it."

Norman Spector cynically (and rightly!) responded, "Well then why do we have elections? We should just have the Chinese system. That's exactly what the Chinese government says: 'We can deliver the goods. We're improving your standard of living. You don't need a democratic system of government.' "

It would be most interesting if Good revealed precisely which MP said that to him!

All of this made me think of a good slogan for Le Cabal de Trois: "Vote for us and have good government, just like in China!" If you'd like to listen to the entire discussion, just click here.

In anticipation of this takeover, I've created the perfect flag for them:
